Maryland 277 begins at the community of Elk Mills on Elk Mills Road 1.8 miles east of Cherry Hill & Leeds Road and 0.7 miles west of Maryland 316 (Appleton Road). A state maintanence marker and Maryland 277 eastbound reassurance shield are posted at the transition from county into state route. Maryland 277 westbound leaves Maryland 279 (Elkton Road) south just past the Delaware state line. Maryland 277 (Fletchwood Road) links Elkton Road with Appleton Road (Maryland 316 south), Leeds Road, and Maryland 213 northeast of Elkton. Fletchwood Road carries Maryland 277 1.3 miles west to junction Maryland 316 (Appleton Road) and Elk Mills Road. Junction Maryland 316 (Appleton Road) on Maryland 277 (Elk Mills Road) eastbound. Maryland 316 begins to the right and travels 2.6 miles southwest into Elkton. The state route used to continue along Appleton Road further north to its intersection with Barksdale Road. That connection in conjunction with Barksdale Road leads driver into the city of Newark, Delaware alternatively to Elkton Road (Maryland 279 & Delaware 2). Photo taken 07/31/04.
Maryland 277 West
A look at the northern terminus of Maryland 316 (Appleton Road) at dusk from Maryland 277 (Fletchwood Road) westbound. The intersection between the two is governed by a set of flashers still despite 2004 traffic signal installations throughout Cecil County. Leeds Road travels 3.4 miles between Union Church Road and junction Maryland 213 (Fair Hill Road). The east-west roadway intersects Maryland 545 (Blue Ball Road) at Leeds itself.
