Maryland 781 travels Delancy Road between U.S. 40 and Maryland 281 east of Elkton. The growing suburban area sees the state route grow in popularity as a short cut between Old Baltimore Pike in New Castle County, Delaware and U.S. 40 (Pulaski Highway). Maryland 781 remains two lanes however despite the increased traffic and development.

Within one-quarter mile of the state line is the southern terminus of Maryland 781 (Delancy Road) on U.S. 40 (Pulaski Highway) eastbound. Delancy Road connects U.S. 40 with Maryland 281 (Red Hill Road) to the east of Elkton. Maryland 281 becomes Old Baltimore Pike upon entering New Castle County, Delaware. Thus motorists driving to/from Delaware often use Maryland 781 to make the leap from Maryland 281 / Old Baltimore Pike onto the Pulaski Highway. Photo taken 03/23/04. |

Approaching the southern terminus of Maryland 781 (Delancy Road) on U.S. 40 (Pulaski Highway). The Pulaski Highway begins at State Road, Delaware and travels into Cecil County just one quarter mile east of Delancy Road. To the north is a large car dealership and several new housing subdivisions. The former corn fields were the site of a 1963 plane crash that resulted in the death of 81 aboard a Pan American Boeing 707. Lightning from the December 8 thunderstorm ignited fuel vapor causing an explosion that sent the plane (Flight 121) down. Photo taken 07/31/04. |

The traffic signal was installed at the southern terminus of Maryland 781 (Delancy Road) by 2001. Delancy Road travels one mile south from Maryland 281 (Red Hill Road) to junction U.S. 40.
