Miscellaneous West Virginia State Routes

U.S. Highway 460
U.S. 460 (Veterans Memorial Highway) leaves Interstate 77 (Exit 9) and meets West Virginia 104 (Ambrose Lane) and West Virginia State Secondary 27/3. Ambrose Lane serves an array of travel services south of U.S. 460 and connects with Oakvale Road (old U.S. 460) to the north. West Virginia 104 travels Oakvale Road west to Rogers Street and junction West Virginia 20. Photo taken 06/17/05.
West Virginia 104 loops through the city of Princeton north of U.S. 460, which primarily bypasses the city to the south. Connections with West Virginia 20 north lead drivers eight miles to Athens and 17 miles to Pipestem and Pipestem Resort State Park. West Virginia 104 otherwise continues to U.S. 19 in downtown. U.S. Highway 522
The intersection of Virginia State Secondary 1 (River Road) with U.S. 522 near Potomac Airpark south of Hancock, Maryland. U.S. 522 leaves its overlap with Interstate 70 and crosses the Potomac River between Maryland 144 (Main Street) and River Road. River Road spurs east from the federal route to Sleepy Creek and Cherry Run along the Potomac. Photo taken 08/07/04.

West Virginia 28 Alternate
West Virginia 28 Alternate provides an alternate route for West Virginia 28 to the city of Cumberland, Maryland and Interstate 68. West Virginia 28 crosses the Potomac River via State Street at Wiley Ford. West Virginia 28 Alternate ventures north along Knobley Street through Ridgeley to Potomac Street, Mulligan Street, and Bridge Street to the Potomac River at central Cumberland. Photo taken 08/07/04.
A steel arch bridge spans the Potomac River between Ridgeley and Cumberland. West Virginia 28 travels Bridge Street north to the state line where the road becomes Water Street. Water Street passes underneath Interstate 68 & U.S. 40-220 ahead of its intersection with Greene Street (former U.S. 220). Photo taken 08/07/04.
The Maryland state line lies along the south banks of the Potomac River at Cumberland. Water Street meets Greene Street at a signalized intersection one block north of the river. From there Greene Street overtakes Water Street north one block to the intersection of Baltimore Street, Washington Street, and Cumberland Street. Photo taken 08/07/04.

West Virginia 16
West Virginia 16 (Robert C. Byrd Drive) descends from the trumpet interchange with Interstates 64 & 77 (West Virginia Turnpike) into the town of Mabscott and city of Beckley. The four-lane divided highway sees off-ramps ahead with Depot Street and City Avenue. Photo taken 06/17/05.
