Virginia State Secondary 732 is the first highway encountered in the Old Dominion. Featured at the intersection
is a VDOT standard reassurance shield and mileage sign combo. Five miles ahead is Gate City (pop. 2,159),

Entering the community of Weber City (pop. 1,333) on U.S.
23 northbound. Intersecting the north-south highway is Virginia State Secondary 614 (Yuma Road) and Clonce
Street. Virginia SSR 614 stretches a good 20 miles before crossing into the state of Tennessee as Pink Hill

Between Weber City and Gate City, U.S. 23 merges with U.S.
58 & 421. The three highways overlap 17.7 miles westward through Gate City to the village of Duffield. U.S. 58 & 421
enter the overlap with U.S. 23 after leaving the city of Bristol (pop. 17,367) 26 miles to the east.

U.S. 23 northbound at U.S. 58 & 421 (Hilton Road). Gate City lies
two miles to the west. A rural two lane stretch of U.S. 58 & 421 continue eastward toward Hilton and Bristol.
Abingdon (pop. 7,780) represents the eastbound control point for U.S. 58 beyond Bristol. U.S. 421 southbound
