U.S. Highway 522

U.S. 522 travels briefly into Maryland between Morgan County, West Virginia and Fulton County, Pennsylvania through the Hanock area of Washington County. The federal route crosses the Potomac River two miles south of its merge with Interstate 70 & U.S. 40 near the east end of Interstate 68. U.S. 522 overlaps with Interstate 70 northward to Warfordsburg, Pennsylvania.

U.S. 522 North
U.S. 522 northbound prepares to merge onto Interstate 70 & U.S. 40 westbound northwest of Hancock. The federal highway joins Interstate 70 west for four miles between Exit 1B in Washington County to Exit 168 at Warfordsburg, Pennsylvania. U.S. 522 South
U.S. 522 southbound departs from Interstate 70 at the a tri-level stack interchange (Exit 1B) adjacent to the Exit 1A interchange with Interstate 68 & U.S. 40. The federal highway proceeds southward to an interchange with Maryland 144 (Main Street) at the town of Hancock. Maryland 144 represents the original alignment of U.S. 40 between Millstone and Harvey. An original button copy sign remains in use one quarter mile north of the Main Street off-ramp. U.S. 522 enters Morgan County at the West Virginia State Secondary 1 (River Road) intersection near the Potomac Airpark. Berkeley Springs lies five miles ahead at the junction with West Virginia 9.
