Interstate 70 Eastbound

Interstate 70 Eastbound
Interstate 70 eastbound on the approach to the split with Interstate 470 at Exit 219 outside of St. Clairsville. Interstate 470 provides the through route for traffic interests east to Washington, Pennsylvania in lieu of downtown Wheeling. The Wheeling bypass serves Bellaire, Ohio via Exit 6 (Ohio 7) and Moundsville, West Virginia via Exit 1 (U.S. 250 & West Virginia 2). Photo taken 10/15/04.
Drivers merging onto Interstate 70 east from Banfield Road and the Ohio Valley Mall form a third exit-only lane for the eastbound beginning of Interstate 470. Interstate 470 travels ten miles altogether between Blaine, Ohio and Elm Grove, West Virginia. Photo taken 10/15/04.
Interstate 470 splits with Interstate 70 east at Exit 219. The Wheeling bypass interchanges with Rock Mount Road in three miles and Ohio 7 in six miles before crossing the Ohio River into south Wheeling. Interstate 70 interchanges with Rock Mount Road (Belmont County 214) one half mile ahead at Exit 220. Photo taken 10/15/04.
A diamond interchange handles the movements between Belmont County 214 (Rock Mount Road) and Interstate 70 at Exit 220. Rock Mount Road ends at U.S. 40 (National Road) just north of Interstate 70. The County highway continues southeast from Exit 220 three miles to junction Interstate 470 (Exit 3) and 6.6 miles to Bellaire. Photo taken 10/15/04.
Interstate 70 eastbound at the Exit 220 off-ramp to Belmont County 214 (Rock Mount Road) for U.S. 40 (National Road). U.S. 40 continues to parallel Interstate 70 between Rock Mount Road and Bridgeport. The National Road passes through the communities of Blaine, Lansing, Wolfhurst, and Brookside before entering Bridgeport near Interstate 70 Exit 225. Photo taken 10/15/04.
Interstate 70 continues uninterrupted for five miles between Interstate 470 and the city of Bridgeport. Pictured here is a eastbound reassurance marker posted after the Exit 220 on-ramp from Rock Mount Road. Photo taken 10/15/04.

The final interchange within Ohio serves U.S. 250 west & Ohio 7 (Lincoln Avenue) at Bridgeport along the Ohio River. U.S. 250 travels 24 miles southeast from Cadiz to junction Ohio 7 in Bridgeport. Ohio 7 meanwhile straddles the Ohio River between East Liverpool and Chesapeake across from the state of West Virginia. Photo taken 10/15/04.
Exit 225 serves Wheeling Island via U.S. 40 & 250 (Zane Street) east from Ohio 7 (Lincoln Avenue) and Bridgeport. Wheeling Island lies within the Ohio River west of downtown Wheeling and is home to the Wheeling Island Racetrack and Gaming Center. Photo taken 10/15/04.
Ohio 7 travels north from Bridgeport to Martins Ferry and Tiltonsville. Bellaire lies to the south along the state highway at its junctions with Ohio 147 and Ohio 149. Photo taken 10/15/04.
One half mile west of the Exit 225 diamond interchange with Marion Street near the Pine Street over crossing. Interstate 70 passes over Ohio 7 (Lincoln Avenue) via a high-level bridge over the west branch of the Ohio River. The existence of the bridge disallows for a direct connection between the freeway and state highway below. Therefore traffic interests to Ohio 7 and U.S. 250 must use Marion Street north to U.S. 40 (National Road) east to its intersection with U.S. 250 & Ohio 7 (Lincoln Avenue). Photo taken 10/15/04.
Interstate 70 east as it enters the Exit 225 interchange with Marion Street. Marion Street stems south from U.S. 40 (National Road) nearby to Jacquette Street in Bridgeport. U.S. 40 merges with U.S. 250 in 0.3 miles at its split with Ohio 7 (Lincoln Avenue). From there U.S. 40 crosses the west branch of the Ohio River to Zane Street on Wheeling Island. The federal highway merges with Interstate 70 & U.S. 250 at Exit 0 to cross the Ohio River itself in one mile. Photo taken 10/15/04.
The eastbound direction of U.S. 250 joins Interstate 70 from Exit 225 to cross the Ohio River at Bridgeport. U.S. 250 continues east through the Wheeling Tunnel at downtown Wheeling to Exit 1B where it turns south toward Moundsville. Photo taken 10/15/04.
