Interstate 75 North
Traveling through the Mexicantown section of Detroit, I-75 (Fisher Freeway) advances to Exit 48 for the westbound beginning of Interstate 96 at the Ambassador Bridge Gateway Project area. 09/07/09
Interstate 96 connects with U.S. 12 (Michigan Avenue) nearby and I-94 (Ford Freeway) in 2.25 miles. An intrastate route, I-96 stretches 192.01 miles west from Detroit to U.S. 31 at Norton Shores. 09/07/09
I-96 west to Interstate 94 leads to Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) in Romulus and the city of Ann Arbor. I-75 north to M-10 (John Lodge Freeway) connects with the Huntington Place (formerly Detroit Civic Center / Cobo Arena and Hall) and the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel to Ontario. 11/07/09
Exit 47 C to Vernor Highway opened to traffic on October 23, 2009. Vernor Highway joins I-75 with Mexicantown, southwest Detroit and U.S. 12 (Michigan Avenue) near Corktown. Interstate 75 expands to four overall roadways as part of the Gateway Project. I-96 lines the Local roadways to the three-wye interchange where I-75 turns eastward toward Downtown. 11/07/09
Exit 191 departs from Interstate 96 west beyond the separation with I-75 for U.S. 12 (Michigan Avenue). Interstate 75 parallels U.S. 12 on the ensuing stretch east to M-10 (John Lodge Freeway). 09/07/09
Northbound I-75 reduces to two through lanes ahead of c/d roadway at Exit 49 to Rosa Parks Boulevard and M-10 (John Lodge Freeway). M-10 replaced U.S. 10 by 1987 when the US highway was truncated from Detroit northwest to Bay City.1 U.S. 12 is the lone remaining US highway to reach Downtown Detroit. U.S. 10, U.S. 16, U.S. 25 and U.S. 112 were phased out over the years from the city. 09/07/09
Curving eastward, Interstate 75 passes under U.S. 12 (Michigan Avenue) at 20th Street where Exit 49 departs for M-10 and Rosa Parks Boulevard. The John C. Lodge Freeway carried U.S. 10 shields from 1970 onward.1 09/07/09
Two lanes separate from the c/d roadway at Exit 49 for M-10 (John Lodge Freeway) east to Downtown and the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel and M-10 west to I-696/U.S. 24 at Southfield. Interests to Ford Field (home of the NFL Detroit Lions) and Comerica Park (home of the MLB Detroit Tigers) are directed to Exit 50 for the Fisher Freeway eastbound frontage road. 09/07/09
Exit 50 leaves I-75 north from within the turbine interchange with M-10 for Grand River Avenue. Grand River Avenue represents the original route of U.S. 16 leading west from Downtown to Farmington. The route was decommissioned in 1962, becoming Business Spur I-96 between U.S. 12 (Michigan Avenue) in Detroit and I-96 in east Farmington until 1987.2 09/07/09
Exit 50 parts ways for Grand River Avenue, M-1 (Woodward Avenue), Ford Field, and Comerica Park. Grand River Avenue becomes part of M-5 from I-96 at Exit 185 northwestward. Beginning at Adams Street, M-1 follows Woodward Avenue 19.25 miles northwest to Business Loop I-75 between Bloomfield and Pontiac. 09/07/09
I-75 turns northward onto the Chrysler Freeway from the Fisher Freeway at Exits 51 B/C with M-3 and I-375. Interstate 375 follows the Chrysler Freeway southward to Greektown, Bricktown and Downtown Detroit. The Fisher Freeway spurs 0.73 miles east from Left Exit 51 B onto M-3 (Gratiot Avenue). 09/07/09
Beginning at M-10 and Business Spur I-375 (Jefferson Street), M-3 follows Randolph Street north to Gratiot Avenue. The trunk highway continues northeast to Coleman A. Young International Airport (DET) near I-94 at Exit 219, and 35.05 miles overall to I-94/M-29 in Chesterfield Township. U.S. 25 originally followed Gratiot Avenue and was decommissioned in Michigan by 1973. 09/07/09
Interstate 375 (Chrysler Freeway) constitutes a 1.31 mile long spur south to Jefferson Avenue near Renaissance Center and the entrance to the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel. The freeway was completed in 1964.3 09/07/09
