Interstate 91 essentially makes a 90 degree turn at the split with Interstate 391. The six-lane freeway is signed with a 50 mph advised speed in both directions here. The interchange resembles an infinity symbol from above, with circular ramps that join movements from both the freeway and surface arterial below. The ramp to U.S. 5 south is unusual that it joins with the Exit 13B ramp of Interstate 91 southbound to make the connection to Riverdale Street. Travelers continuing to the Mass Pike approach the Exit 4 toll plaza. The toll road uses a ticketed based system where tolls are levied based upon miles traveled.
