Motorists using the Interstate 95 outer roadway for the George Washington Bridge face another segregation into Local and Express lanes beyond the split with the inner carriageway for Interstate 80 westbound. The Express and Local lanes converge at the George Washington Bridge in the form of the upper and lower levels. The roadway for Interstate 80 west also partitions into a Local and Express configuration. Technically this should be the eastern terminus for U.S. 46, but New Jersey DOT straight line stats indicate that the highway overlaps (secretly) with Interstate 95, U.S. 1 and 9 across the George Washington Bridge to the New York state line.
