The confluence of New Jersey 73 southbound with New Jersey 41, New Jersey 38 (Kaighn Avenue), and the Kings Highway occurs at the community of Maple Shade. New Jersey 41 loops north from the Kings Highway over New Jersey 73 at a partial cloverleaf. The state route also interchanges with New Jersey 38 just south of New Jersey 73. Depicted here is the southbound New Jersey 41 off-ramp for Cherry Hill and Haddonfield. Photo taken 12/23/01.
An interesting configuration handles the movements between New Jersey 73, New Jersey 38 (Kaighn Avenue) and the old Kings Highway (now bypassed by New Jersey 41 to the northwest). A partial-cloverleaf interchange facilitates the movements between New Jersey 73 and Laighn Avenue, The Kings Highway however is discontinuous due to the state highway crossing. Therefore the original New Jersey 41 directly ties into the New Jersey 38 & 73 ramps. Kaighn Avenue is part of the New Jersey 38 corridor between U.S. 30 and Mount Holly. New Jersey 73 interchanges with Interstate 295 and the New Jersey Turnpike south from here. Photo taken 12/23/01.
New Jersey 73 West
Approaching the New Jersey 90 westbound beginning on New Jersey 73 north. New Jersey 90 veers westward to Pennsauken (junction U.S. 130 south) and New Jersey 73 continues northwest to Palmyra and junction U.S. 130 north. New Jersey 90 was to have continued southeast along the New Jersey 73 corridor as a freeway providing direct access between the Betsy Ross Bridge and New Jersey Turnpike. Plans for this were cancelled by 1980. Photo taken 12/23/01.
The westbound beginning of New Jersey 90 departs New Jersey 73 north. New Jersey 90 constitutes a full freeway between here and the Betsy Ross Bridge. The 1976-opened bridge carries eight overall lanes to Interstate 95 within the city of Philadelphia. New Jersey 73 also crosses the Delaware River via the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge to the northwest. Both spans are tolled in the westbound direction. Photo taken 12/23/01.
