Interstate 30 Eastbound - Forth Worth Vicinity (IH 20 to IH 35W)

Interstate 30 East
Interstate 30 begins via a partial "Y" interchange from Interstate 20 ahead of the Tarrant County line west of Fort Worth. Interstate 20's frontage road system continues along Interstate 30 into western Fort Worth. Photo taken 10/19/03.
Interstate 30, and 20 to the west, replaced U.S. 80 as the main route through west Texas into Dallas-Forth Worth. While the frontage roads often represent the original U.S. 80, at times the alignment peels off onto its own. Such is the case with Texas Spur 580, which follows old U.S. 80 through the Westland section of Fort Worth and Westover Hills. Photo taken 10/19/03.
The right-hand departs Interstate 30 east for Texas Spur 580 (Exit 2), leaving the freeway with just four lanes through to junction Interstate 820. Texas Spur 580 comprises a multi-lane divided highway through to junction Interstate 820, and a commercialized arterial east of Loop 820. Photo taken 10/19/03.
A parting shot of old U.S. 80 through west Fort Worth as Interstate 30 branches northeast toward downtown. Texas Spur 580 follows Camp Bowie West through to its end at the merge with U.S. 377. Originally U.S. 80 & 377 followed Camp Bowie Boulevard to 7th Street and the Fort Worth central business district. Photo taken 10/19/03.
Exit 3 joins Interstate 30 with Chapel Creek Boulevard at the resumption of freeway frontage roads in west Fort Worth. The frontage roads provide connections to Texas Farm to Market Road 2871 (Longvue Avenue) south. Photo taken 10/19/03.
One quarter mile west of the Exit 3 diamond interchange with Chapel Creek Boulevard. Chapel Creek Boulevard leads north from Texas Spur 580 in Westland Fort Worth to White Settlement Road. Photo taken 10/19/03.
Exit 3 departs and the Interstate 30 frontage road system begins. Departing nearby is the southbound beginning of Texas Farm to Market Road 2871 (Longvue Avenue). FM 2871 heads south to Interstate 20 (Exit 426) and U.S. 377 (Benbrook Boulevard) at Dutch Branch Park in southwest Fort Worth. Photo taken 10/19/03.

Departing the freeway next are Exits 5A to south Alemeda Street and 5B to junction Interstate 820. Alemeda Street stems south from the Interstate 30 eastbound frontage road to Texas Spur 580 and Chapin Road. The frontage road itself also curves south and travels alongside Interstate 820 south/outer. Photo taken 10/19/03.
Approaching the Texas Farm to Market Road 2871 overpass on Interstate 30 east, one quarter mile out from the Exit 5A off-ramp for Alemeda Street. Alemeda Street continues north from the freeway to Westpoint Boulevard and Academy Boulevard, arterials serving residential areas west of Interstate 820. Photo taken 10/19/03.
Exit 5A leaves Interstate 30 eastbound as the freeway prepares to enter the symmetrical stack interchange with Interstate 820. Typical for Dallas-Fort Worth area Interstate to Interstate junctions, no control cities are used for Interstate 820 (Exit 5B). Photo taken 10/19/03.
Exit 5B is revealed to be a dedicated flyover ramp to Interstate 820 northbound only as Interstate 30 nears the stack. Interstate 820 travels north to White Settlement and Lake Worth before turning eastward to Samson Park and Blue Mound. Photo taken 10/19/03.
Eastbound Interstate 30 at the Exit 5B flyover to Interstate 820 north / inner. Interstate 820 provides connections with Interstate 35W north to Argyle, Denton, and Oklahoma City. Photo taken 10/19/03.
Exit 5C follows for Interstate 820 south / outer to Benbrook, Edgecliff (via Interstate 20 east), and junction Interstate 35W south to Burleson and Alvarado. Interstate 820 represents roughly three quarters of the Fort Worth beltway, with Interstate 20 following the southern leg of the loop. The designation originally encircled the whole city on paper, as Interstate 20 utilized the current route of Interstate 30. Photo taken 10/19/03.
Interstate 30 travels the lowest level of the stack with Interstate 820. The symmetrical stack features a more compact and inverted design. Photos taken 10/19/03.
Departing the Interstate 820 stack, Interstate 30 next meets Exit 6 with Las Vegas Trail. The frontage road system resumes east of the Dale Lane overpass and facilitates the movements to Las Vegas Trail, a north-south route between Texas Spur 580 and White Settlement. Photo taken 10/19/03.
Exit 6 leaves Interstate 30 eastbound for Las Vegas Trail. Las Vegas Trail meets the east end of Westpoint Boulevard nearby and ends at Lake Worth in Wildwood Park, just north of Interstate 820 Exit 6. A second look at the high rises of downtown Fort Worth. This stretch of Interstate 30 & U.S. 377 is significant in that the new Texas Toll 121 (Southwest Parkway) will tie into the existing freeway here. Known also as the Chisholm Trail Parkway, Texas Toll 121 comprises a six-lane tollway planned between Interstate 30 near Forest Park Boulevard and U.S. 67 at Cleburne. The northernmost 8.2 miles will join Interstate 30 with Altamesa Boulevard. Work began in late 2007 on the $944 million project with an expected completion in 2011.1 Photo taken 10/19/03.

Rising along the north side of Interstate 30 is the Texas and Pacific Terminal Complex, a building that opened October 25, 1931. Originally the building included a passenger rail station, but that was abandoned in 1967 after completion of the 1958-built Interstate 30 viaduct (since replaced in 2002) caused a decline in passenger totals. Restoration of the building followed in 1999 and passenger service returned in 2001 via Trinity Railway Express.3 Photo taken 10/19/03.
All traffic bound for Interstate 35W leaves Interstate 30 east in unison. A high flyover carries U.S. 377 northbound drivers onto Interstate 35W north ahead of the Exit 52 merge with U.S. 287 and Texas Spur 280 west into downtown Fort Worth. U.S. 377 follows a surface street routing through northeast Fort Worth, Haltom City, Watauga, and Keller while Interstate 35W & U.S. 277 continue to their split at Exit 60 wholly within the city of Fort Worth.
