Routing: From Interstate 80 Exit 298 (West Elko Interchange) to Interstate 80 Exit 303 (East Elko Interchange). Segments of former U.S. 40 and Nevada 535 locally maintained by the city of Elko are: (1) between the western city limits and Nevada 225/Mountain City Highway and (2) between Nevada 227/Lamoille Road and 0.200 mile from Interstate 80 Exit 303 interchange. Both segments are signed as the continuation of Business 80 through Elko.
History: Nevada 535 follows former U.S. 40 and Nevada 1.
Guide: Elko, which is the Elko County seat, is a bustling regional hub. The nearest major city, Twin Falls, Idaho, is 173 miles north of Elko. Other cities -- Salt Lake City, Reno-Sparks, and Las Vegas -- are much further away. It was one of a handful of towns able to convince the railroad to relocate its mainline. The railroad was moved from between Commercial and Railroad Streets to near the Humboldt River. |

History: As of 2000, Nevada 591 used to run from 0.1 mile west of Interstate 15 to Highland Drive within Las Vegas. Nevada 591 was a multi-lane divided connector. Boundaries along Spring Mountain are from Highland Drive to Aldebaran Ave, mileage of 0.242 miles. Note that Highland intersects Spring Mountain in the form of a ramp, right under Interstate 15. Highland southbound merges with the westbound Spring Mtn off ramp from Interstate 15 north.
About the Desert Inn Superarterial: Nevada 591 is not the Desert Inn Superarterial. Spring Mountain Road is an entirely separate road running parallel to Desert Inn, and it is located about 1/4-mile south of Desert Inn Superarterial. Only a short portion of Spring Mountain Road (the section closest to Interstate 15) is maintained by the state. Clark County, not NDOT, built the Wilbur Clark Desert Inn Superarterial in the mid-1990s as a way to avoid the freeway and Strip. The only ways on/off the Desert Inn Superarterial are access roads between Valley View and the Interstate 15 overpass, an eastbound exit to Highland Drive (and via the new Spring Mountain interchange and westbound Spring Mountain), and westbound access to Channel 8 Drive. |
