Nevada 564

Routing
Nevada 564 is Lake Mead Parkway between the Interstate 215 and Interstate 515 interchange and the entrance gate to the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. A portion of the route is maintained by the city of Henderson. Once inside the recreation area, maintenance is performed by the National Park Service, which also administers tourist activities at nearby Hoover Dam.
History
Prior to the completion of Interstate 215 between the western Nevada 146 interchange and Interstate 515, what is now Nevada 564 was part of a longer Nevada 146. To avoid an overlap between Nevada 146 and Interstate 215, the Lake Mead Parkway segment was renumbered as Nevada 564. The remaining segment of Nevada 146 not replaced by Interstate 215 was renamed as Saint Rose Parkway.

This suite of photos shows major power transmission lines crossing over Nevada 564 west of the entrance to Lake Las Vegas. The tallest tower is also the newest; it is part of Nevada Power's Centennial project, which resulted in the construction of several new transmission lines, including this new 500kV line from the Lake Mead substation north to the Harry Allen substation near the Interstate 15 and U.S. 93 interchange northeast of Las Vegas. The tower has the capacity to be expanded to a double circuit 500kV system if needed. The second tower is a 500kV power line that follows the third line, which is Path 27 (a ±500kV Intermountain High Voltage Direct Current [HVDC] transmission line from Delta, Utah, to Adelanto, California). The second set of photos looks north. Photos taken 03/29/08. |
