U.S. 395 Highway Guides

U.S. 395/North-South Freeway and Interstate 580 south
Interstate 580 & U.S. 395 leave the confluence with Interstate 80 (Exit 68) between the Reno and Sparks central business districts. U.S. 395 remains within the Reno city limits for its entire run through the metro area, but it comes very close to Sparks near the Interstate 80 interchange. The next two exits serve downtown Reno via Glendale Avenue (Nevada 648) and Mill Street (Exit 66). Photo taken 09/09/05.
Southbound Interstate 580 and U.S. 395 meet Exit 67, Junction Nevada 648/Glendale Avenue. U.S. 395 continues on an elevated viaduct that passes over Fourth Street (Business Loop I-80 and U.S. 40) and Kietzke Lane (Nevada 667) prior to the Exit 67 partial-cloverleaf interchange with Glendale Avenue. Glendale Avenue (Nevada 648) travels east from the intersection of Second Street and Nevada 667/Kietzke Lane to Nevada 648/Rock Boulevard and Nevada 650/East McCarran Boulevard in Sparks. Mills Street intersects Interstate 580 & U.S. 395 at the Exit 66 partial-cloverleaf interchange one half mile south of Glendale Avenue. The freeway continues south toward Plumb Lane (Exit 65A) and Moana Lane (Exit 64) within the next two miles. Photo taken 09/09/05.
Southbound U.S. 395 and Interstate 580 meet Exit 66, Mill Street. Traveling generally northwest to southeast, Mill Street ventures from Business U.S. 395/Virginia Street in downtown Reno east to Kietzke Lane, Interstate 580 & U.S. 395, Greg Street, Rock Boulevard, and ultimately Nevada 650/East McCarran Boulevard. The next upcoming exits sign omits the Exit 65B partial "Y" interchange for Reno-Lake Tahoe International Airport. Plumb Lane (Exit 65A) also serves the airport but NVDOT constructed a more direct connection to the facility for southbound travelers in the form of Exit 65B. Photos taken 07/19/09 and 09/09/05.
Exit 65A composes a split-diamond interchange between Interstate 580 & U.S. 395 and Villanova Drive and Plumb Lane. Villanova Drive travels east-west between Harvard Way and Terminal Way. Plumb Lane links Reno-Tahoe International Airport with Kietzke Lane, Virginia Street (U.S. 395 Business), and West McCarran Boulevard. Photo taken 07/19/09.
Exit 65B departs Interstate 580 & U.S. 395 southbound in the form of a high-speed flyover directly into the terminal area of Reno-Tahoe International Airport. A companion ramp returns airport traffic onto the freeway northbound. Photo taken 07/19/09.

(The business route has been on the west side of the freeway, but for the next couple of miles, the busines route will be east of the freeway.) Nevada 667 turns onto Neil Road / Del Monte Lane from the south end of Kietzke Lane near Exit 62. The state highway travels 5.653 miles south from B Street in downtown Sparks to Virginia Street (U.S. 395 Business) nearby. Photo taken 07/19/09.
Interstate 580 ends silently as U.S. 395 reaches Exit 62, Junction Nevada 667/Kietzke Lane and Neil Road. Exit 62 is a diamond interchange. Neil Road crosses Business U.S. 395 nearby and then turns north near the Meadowood Mall to McCarran Boulevard, Peckham Lane, and Moana Lane. U.S. 395/North-South Freeway and Future Interstate 580 south

U.S. 395 continues south from Neil Road and crosses paths again with Virginia Street (Business U.S. 395 & Nevada 430) at Exit 61. The surface arterial stays west of the freeway from there south to Exit 58. Photo taken 07/19/09.
A two-lane ramp leaves U.S. 395 southbound for South Virginia Street at Exit 61. U.S. 395 Business meets Nevada 671 (Huffaker Lane) & Longley Lane to the north and Holcomb Lane to the south. The arterial is heavily commercialized on the stretch. Photo taken 07/19/09.
The next three exits serve the southern reaches of the Reno city limits. South Meadows Parkway and Damonte Ranch Parkway represent arterials in the growing south suburbs. Photo taken 09/09/05.
Southbound at the Exit 60 diamond interchange with South Meadows Parkway. The surface arterial spurs east from U.S. 395 Business & Nevada 430 (Virginia Street) to Double Diamond Parkway. The parkway is planned to continue further east to the Reno city line. Photo taken 09/09/05.
Damonte Ranch Parkway, like South Meadows Parkway, provides a surface arterial between South Virginia Street and growing developments to the east of the U.S. 395 freeway. A diamond interchange composes the junction between the two highways at Exit 59. Photo taken 09/09/05.

Exit 59 departs U.S. 395 southbound for Damonte Ranch Parkway. Damonte Ranch Parkway loops east from Virginia Street and Arrow Creek Parkway into newly developed suburbs east of the freeway. U.S. 395 southbound prepares to depart its freeway via the Exit 57B loop ramp onto Virginia Street southbound. The federal highway follows Virginia Street south to junction Nevada 431 (Mt. Rose Highway) & 341 (Geiger Grade Road) in one-half mile. U.S. 395 continues south from there to Washoe Lake and Carson City. Virginia 341 travels east 13 miles to Virginia City. U.S. 395 leaves the freeway and merges onto Virginia Street southbound via Exit 57B. The highway follows a four-lane surface highway nine miles to the Washoe Freeway. Construction on the new U.S. 395 freeway from south Reno to Washoe City is underway with an expected completion by 2008. In the meantime the existing freeway continues a short distance to its premature end at junction Nevada 431 (Exit 56). Continue south on U.S. 395 or read below for the stub freeway to Nevada 431. Future Interstate 580 and U.S. 395/North-South Freeway south
The future U.S. 395 freeway passes over Virginia Street and heads southwest a short distance before ending at Nevada 431 (Mt. Rose Highway). Nevada 431 travels west from U.S. 395 & Nevada 341 to junction Nevada 28 at Incline Village. Photo taken 07/19/09.
Jersey barriers shunt traffic onto the Exit 56 off-ramp to Nevada 431 (Mt. Rose Highway) from the future U.S. 395 freeway. Future U.S. 395 (Interstate 580) continues west of U.S. 395 and Washoe City to the Washoe Lake Freeway. The Washoe Lake Freeway ties into the north end of the future Carson City Bypass, a limited-access highway planned for completion by 2006 to U.S. 50 and 2010 overall. Photo taken 07/19/09.

Exit 56 partitions into turn lanes for Nevada 431 east and west. Nevada 431 constitutes 24.470 miles of pavement between Nevada 28 at Lake Tahoe east to U.S. 395.
