Traffic Control / Re: Active highway shields tha...

Not a shield, but I've touched this set of milepost 1's in the median of the I-580/US 395/US 50 freeway in Carson City, NV, which includes an NDOT standard county milepost and a FHWA enhanced reference panel. This wasn't a daredevil feat of roadgeekery...I did it during the community fun run/walk event held days before the freeway opened to traffic. (So I guess I didn't technically touch an "active" sign, but got to them before they were active.)

Oh yeah?!?

Figured something like that was coming. Recorded history works for me as opposed to a hypothesis.

Sports / Re: NFL (2024 Season)
Last post by webny99 - Today at 11:08:31 AM
Last year's NFL draft had a lot of first-round draft pick movement. The Dolphins pick was forfeited so there were only 31 picks made by 27 different teams. Various trades resulted in the Texans, Eagles, Lions, and Seahawks picking twice, while the Browns, Broncos, Rams, and 49ers did not pick at all.

This year is a lot more straightforward, at least as we enter draft night. 29 teams still have their original pick while the Panthers, Browns, and Texans have traded away their pick(s). The Bears, Cardinals, and Vikings have two picks each.

The Browns are the only team with no first-rounder this year or last. Meanwhile, the Rams are slated to make a first-round pick for the first time since drafting Jared Goff in 2016 (yes, you read that right!)

Mid-South / Re: I-49 in Arkansas

Arkansas Department of Transportation plans to expand Interstate 49

Haven't selected contractor yet, but plan on starting actual construction from AR-22 to Gun Club Rd. starting the middle of next year, which includes the big ticket item of the Arkansas River bridge.

Some typically confused reporting by the local news crew that this phase of the project would allow truck traffic to stay on I-49 to get past Ft. Smith to US-71, but this would be only when everything is done, well into the 2030's.  It's not like trucks are going to take AR-59 and actually use Gun Club Rd., which is a dirt road in the middle of river bottom cropland.  They'll do like they currently do and continue on AR-59 to Barling, turn onto AR-22, and get on AR-549 to US-71.  This first phase isn't exactly a Section of Independent Utility.

No details on whether it's a Super-2 or 4 lane crossing either, so I'd expect to be underwhelmed by what's actually planned for this first phase as I don't see anywhere near enough budgeted in the 2023-2026 STIP for 4 lanes of a major river crossing at $256.9M.

Quote from: formulanone on April 04, 2024, 08:47:03 AMThis is the first reference to SR 516 that I've seen...is it part of a proposed beltway for Clermont or just a connector between US 27 and SR 429? Seems to be a puzzling location for now.
Just a connector. US 27 has gone to shit and there are no good connections to 429 between 192 and 50.
This is why US 27 should be upgraded into a limited-access highway at least between US 192 and 50, instead of building all the other crap they're building around there. I'd almost consider extending the upgrade to I-4.

IMHO, if anything is in need of an upgrade, it's US-27 south of I-4 and north of the new Toll 516 connector. It appears that your proposal would do a similar job to what 516, 429, and I-4 express will do, provided that they work properly in tandem. What do you think? :hmmm:
That wouldn't be such a bad idea either, although I'm not sure how far south the upgrade should go. I'd be willing to consider as far south as SR 60. South of that, while there's certainly some suburban sprawl, I'm not sure the traffic gets bad enough to require turning the road into a limited-access highway.

Yeah Ohio (at least) can change grasses during projects to cut down on future mowing.
