If there's a topic for END signs, then there should also be a topic for BEGINS signs :)

Wellington CR 30 near Maryhill, ON

Waterloo RR 55 in Breslau, ON

Wellington CR 32  by Hwy 7 near Guelph, ON

Maple Grove Rd (Waterloo RR 38) by Formery Hwy 24 in Cambridge, ON

And a 60 km/h sign :-P

Pretty sure when I was a kid I saw a BEGIN US 14 assembly in Rochester, MN.
Wait, it's all Ohio? Always has been.

Here's going the opposite way, for the first image:

And my version of that second image:

The Begin MN-244 marker at the junction/terminus of MN-120

And the old MN-5 terminus at MN-36 in Stillwater

Finally, the Begin I-55 marker in Chicago

Edit to include one I forgot I had, the Begin Iowa 330 marker in Altoona:

There should be a BEGIN sign over the 168 shield since this is the beginning of the eastern leg of 168. Instead just the BEGIN sign for the scenic route.

If my only contribution to the "END" thread was the end of I-90 East, I feel like I should make my only contribution, from among several dozen possibilities from my collection, to this one the beginning of I-90 East.  Or at least what it looked like way back on July 29, 1999, when I took this one:

In Hawaii, I think there are only two BEGIN signs, both on Kauai (island with the best signage in the entire state).

In Alaska, just one set, at the south end of AK 3 (I only photo'd the NB sign, but there's a BEGIN AK 1 along the SB lanes). END signs are not quite as rare, but in keeping with apparent Arctic custom of using them only where they are completely unnecessary (Northwest Territories have a few of those; no END signs at all in the Yukon).

This is one of the only "BEGIN" signs that I know of in Washington. Most beginnings only have standard route markers with cardinal direction tabs. Interestingly, no cardinal direction tab here:

The opposite carriageway has the opposite assembly (and accompanying "END" and "BEGIN" tabs), but the Hwy 525 shield has been missing for well over five years now. Not sure why the tab was blue and so small, though:

Regarding that 60 km/h sign in the first post, I'm sure I remember seeing speed limit signs in Ontario that had a French plaque reading "DEBUT" (may have had an accent mark) underneath the "BEGINS" sign. I don't have any pictures of that, though. I'm pretty sure it wasn't in Quebec because they would most likely have omitted the English portion, and I haven't been to New Brunswick since 1989 so I know it wasn't there I remember because I was driving when I saw these and I've never driven in New Brunswick.

Here's an example in Ottawa, right off the MacDonald-Cartier Bridge (I'm not sure why the speed limit is so low)

That may well be one we passed on our most recent trip to Ontario–we had been to Mont-Tremblant and we drove down to Ottawa on the way home for a stay at the Chateau Laurier.

I drove by this Highway 427 BEGINS sign today and unfortunately didn't get a photo, but here it is on GSV:

I'll throw some IL "Begins" signs

I played this one (from interstate-guide.com's page on I-290 in IL) in the Route Number Difference Game

ISTHA seems to like these type of signs (from billburmaster.com on various ISTHA Tollway pages)

And more IDOT (interstate-guide.com is credited for first 3 pics, billburmaster.com for IL 394 Begins pic)

It's pretty crummy, but I'm not stopping on a four-lane bridge over the Mississippi River in a work zone to get a better shot.

This is a "Begin" sign for IA-163, an expressway from the Mississippi River at Burlington up to Des Moines.

National Route 12 begins in Sapporo, Japan:

起点: starting point
道路: highway
緊急: emergency
ダイヤル: dial ("daiaru")
国道: National Highway

Sorry for image quality: taken with phone at night from a distance.

I also saw "end" signs (終点) in Sapporo (there's one on the other side of the signpost).

I didn't see any begin or end signs anywhere else (visited a tiny proportion of Tokyo and Kyoto), though they may well exist.

More information about the Japan trip in a future post.

Now that's just really cool.

I can only assume that "Origin" is not the legal term for what is actually occurring. I know they put English on their road signs, but it's usually just to help tourists, right? "Origin" must be an "Engrish" translation of our "BEGINS" signs, or an equivalent to Europe's "motorway begins" plaques.

Here are two BEGIN signs taken on the first half of my trip to Orlando.

The southern start of M-25 in Port Huron, MI

The northern start of I-475 in Macon, GA (unfortunately it's a blurry photo)

The beginning of I-22 (almost) in Byhalia, Mississippi, just a few miles east of Memphis, Tennessee.  I-22 begins at a junction with I-269, and follows US Hwy 78 through most of Mississippi, and then through Alabama to Birmingham where it ends (for now and the foreseeable future).  When this photo was taken (Nov. 25, 2017), I-269 between I-55 and I-22 was not yet complete or open.  I understand that that link opened on December 8, so we just missed it by a couple of weeks.

At Wenberg County Park in Snohomish County, WA. It's west of Arlington, south of Stanwood, and northwest of Marysville.

Interesting. WSDOT doesn't use the "BEGIN" shield very often. I can't think of any, besides the one at the beginning of the 525 in Lynnwood, and that's missing its shield.

Nonetheless, the BGS backing is probably turning off more than a few people here. Certainly doesn't bother me, though.
