Can't remember if anyone posted these before, but the entrance overhead guidance signs to a Petro truck stop that proclaims itself as a welcome center just north of Waterloo, NY:

TA has a truck stop in Baltimore off I-95 at O Donnell Street that is approved by the state as a public rest area just as this Petro Truck is above^^^.

Utah used to partnership with private businesses to have official Rest Stops that would be signed on interstates.

However none with a freeway type of gantry like the one in Waterloo, NY though.

Doubt that this Petro Truck Stop is not "approved by the State" as a public rest area.  It doesn't show up on the Thruway's map and, in any matter, the Thruway =/= "the State," since it is a public authority.

The definition of 'Visitor Center" can be a but wide-ranging. Lots of smaller touristy towns have "Visitor Centers" where brochures are available or gifts can be purchased. Whether these are official, or a business, may be up to interpretation.

Well, yeah, that's why Roadman specifically mentioned the State...

That truck stop is one of the best truck stops in the Northeast, whenever I ended up there I would walk to the nearby casino (or even drive the truck there despite the parking lot not allowing truck parking).
Control cities CAN be off the route! Control cities make NO sense if signs end before the city is reached!

When urbanization has taken over:  No city name, just DOWNTOWN.  Sbd I-75 in Saginaw, MI:

I figure it's safe to assume that it's talking of the downtown of the city you're in. That signing practice is common here in Spain, and to me it seems logical enough.

I agree it's safe to assume, and I've seen this on pull-through signs, but it's unusual (to me at least) to see it on an exit sign.

This is odd. Either I-70 is redundant or KDOT is inconsistent not keeping the same on top as on side.

It looks funny to see the two US routes only on the pole while the interstate is on both.

Those small overhead signs are intended to make lane choice approaching an interchange easier, and never include concurrent routes, just the Interstate. (Keep in mind that pretty much nobody but roadgeeks are going to seriously be looking for US-24, so it's fine to relegate them to the ground-mounted assemblies. There are even examples of freeway-freeway interchanges where KDOT will only mark the main routes on the freeway-size signs, and have ground-mounted conventional-road-style signage to mark the concurrent routes.)

Notice how both interchanges have the same setup with two lanes exiting the freeway with the right lane exclusively for the ramp.

Yet photo 2 don't use the elephant tracks between the exit only lane and the general use lane and include an " EXIT ONLY " sign with the right lane like in photo 1. Yet both exits are one interchange apart on the KTA.

That's odd.

Another oddity. Two overhead signs. One attached to the overpass and the other on a cantilever.

I wonder if the cantilever was there first and then the advance exit sign had to go somewhere else if KDOT didn't want to install an overhead gantry.  There is a set of two signs near me that used to be like that (cantilever was there first) before a gantry finally went up in 2018.

I've seen "Downtown" used as a control before in person, didn't realize it was unusual. Here in Huntsville, AL, both I-565 and the Parkway have exits signed for both the local streets the exits are for and for downtown.
I guess just "Downtown" by itself would be a bit odd though.

This is certainly an odd County Parish Route shield.
It's all fun & games until someone summons Cthulhu and brings about the end of the world.

I also collect traffic lights, road signs, fans, and railroad crossing equipment.

Probably been shared before.  Heck, I probably shared this one before.  Still, it's a fun custom job that I passed once again:
