whenever they lift the face mask mandate

They probably already have. A court order a few days ago lifted the mandate on all public transportation, so unless the bus system itself decided to keep it, it's been lifted.
They haven't. They said they are going to continue it for two more weeks and review it then. I know the federal mandate is gone.

I just received a notice yesterday that my street will be closed soon for "slurry sealing".  All I could think about was cooking with cornstarch.

Maybe it's just me, but 'slurry' is one of those words that makes anything it applies to several times grosser than if you called it literally anything else.

A bear, on a street?

Why would bears be escorted on a busy street? Just curious.
Maybe the bear has diseases and could spread across Asheville?
These questions may never be answered.  :-D

Because you value your own thoughts more than other people do, of course.

It is customary to tell people when you are parting their company "goodbye"  or the more casual/neutral sounding "bye."   How come there isn't a "bad bye"  when it would serve as the fully negative end of the "bye"  spectrum?

Because the social norm of wishing someone a "good day"  begs the question why can't you wish someone the opposite.

And what's this about cheddar flavored t-shirts?

I remember a shirt from the 1980s saying Have a Day with a face having a straight line for the mouth.

But the long-form "Have a bad night!" would probably elicit an angry response.

It does honestly make me wonder in what social situation you would find it preferable to wish someone a bad day over simply not saying anything at all.

To protect the bear from the humans.

I really hope most Americans aren't gullible enough to believe that today, Cinco de Mayo, is a real holiday.  Not very many people in Mexico even care about this day much less celebrate it.  It was the liquor companies that made this fake holiday famous.

And for those of you wondering about Mexico's Independence Day, it is on September 16th; that day is equivalent to our July 4th.
We're so far south that we're not even considered "The South"

hotdogPi

Cinco de Mayo and Orthodox Earth Day always fall on the same day and will until 2100 when the Julian calendar falls behind by one more day.
