I should add one important note if I-5 from Eugene to Salem.

IT NEEDS THREE LANES!!

A lot of truck traffic on that stretch and for a “rural” stretch it can get congested.

Total agreement.  I-5 should be 6-laned to Cottage Grove.  The new I-5 bridges in Eugene/Springfield are set up for 6 lanes.  I asked ODOT when that would happen.  Their reply said in the 2030's.  Talk about lacking a sense of urgency...LOL!

Rick
US 101 is THE backbone of the Pacific coast from Bandon OR to Willits CA.  Industry, tourism and local traffic would be gone or severely crippled without it being in functioning condition in BOTH states.

Well, yeah.  But you could generalize that to I-5 should be at least three lanes each way from San Ysidro to Burlington, WA.

And the BANANAs.

SeriesE

Plenty stretches of I-5 needs a 3rd lane, like from CA-99 Wheeler Ridge to I-580.

The 31.5 mile arrow-straight stretch around Albany OR is interesting in theory, but not when you actually drive it.

The most interesting thing about I-5 is all the bits of old US-99 you can get to in No CA, OR, and WA that are near it.
