The funny thing is, that a Parsec is a unit of distance. That was never really explained in Star Wars, but there's probably some cannon explosion somewhere I just don't know.
This really threw me off as a kid.

The Solo movie a few years ago tried to explain that he took a dangerous shortcut on the Kessel Run. Doesn't really explain it, but just "hand waved" over it.

It's like Star Trek geeks endlessly coming up with canon-related explanations of why Klingons look so different in The Original Series than they do in all the other series.  (Deep Space Nine humorously acknowledged this and deliberately blew it off by having Worf say "We do not discuss it with Outsiders."

FYI: Well after the DS9 episode aired, a canon explanation for this phenomenon came about in a two-episode story arc during season 4 of Enterprise: a Klingon augment virus

Today I passed by a VMS that said this simply:

VERY SLOW
TO WARDEN

Usually, a normal message would be like
401 COLLECTORS VERY SLOW
TO WARDEN

but in the end, it was not a correct message anyways, as there was no slowdown

Big John

^^ I don't understand the "TO WARDEN" part.

I'm assuming the VMS was bugged?

Nevada DOT is running a contest through June 15 to pick new safety messages to be displayed on VMSs statewide.

The contenders:
- When Driving, Use Your Thinker and Your Blinker
- That's The Temperature, Not the Speed Limit
- Texts Means Wrecks
- It's Not a Race, Leave Some Space
- There is No Need to Drive At Warp Speed
- Practice Vehicle Social Distancing. Don't Tailgate
- Your Seat Belt Looks Good On You
- Gamble at the Casino, Not Your Car. Buckle Up!
- Camp In The Mountains, Not the Left Lane
- Turn Signals Come Free with Vehicles. Use Them.
- Don't Get Exhausted. Tailgating Blows.

sprjus4

I like the left lane one, Virginia has something similar they'll post around Labor Day... "Camp in state parks, not the left lane"

Some of these are very witty. I like that. Is the contest still accepting entries?

Banned by whom?

I think there's a provision in the proposed MUTCD 11e that bans them. Of course, it hasn't gotten officially finalized and approved yet.

Well, you should also restrain your cats while traveling, as a 15 pound projectile (even if it is a fluff ball) can do a lot of damage to the occupants of a car.

I travel with unrestrained 15-pound objects in the car all the time.  Maybe I should start seat-belting my groceries...

Well, usually we put our groceries in the cargo space, so they aren't as dangerous as a cat or dog in the passenger compartment.

i have to wonder about that one.. maybe on 93/95 or whatever they're calling it now.
i-15, maybe not so much. i-80, seems it could be both.

Temperature, not route number.
Clinched, minus I-93 (I'm missing a few miles and my file is incorrect)

Traveled, plus US 13, 44, and 50, and several state routes

I will be in Burlington VT for the eclipse.

Dirt Roads

Seen on I-85/I-40 eastbound between milepost 58 and 59 this afternoon:

           I-40
        Via I-40
    26 min[utes]

I'm pretty sure that meant to say I-540 on the top row.

During the rush hour, this sign typically flips back and forth the trip times between using I-40 versus I-85 and NC-147 (Durham Freeway).  There's less than 2 miles difference between the destinations.  Traditionally, the sign would indicate the trip times to I-540 but most recently I've been seeing trip times to the east end of the Durham Freeway.  That's absurd also:

          NC-147
          Via I-40
      24 min[utes]
---------------------
         NC-147
Via I-85 and NC-147
      26 min[utes]
