New Speed Limits coming to Floyd and Clark Counties (Indiana)
« on: February 26, 2019, 04:13:06 AM »

https://www.wdrb.com/news/isp-supports-speed-limit-increases-on-interstates-in-floyd-and/article_6a0ceb02-3940-11e9-8a0d-affe11e67d07.html

The Indiana State Police (ISP) is changing the speed limits on two major highways: I-65 and I-265/IN 265...

On I-65, the current speed limit drops from 70 mph to 55 mph right before milepost 9...

The NEW speed limits on I-65 will go like this:
  • 70 mph from MP 9 to I-265/IN 265
  • 65 mph from I-265/IN 265 to before the bridge
  • 60 mph to the bridge

On I-265 and IN 265, the speed limit will be raised from 55 mph to 65 mph for almost the entire length... We should learn from their lesson, and raise the speed limits in the other metro areas (Indianapolis, Chicagoland, and Bloomington)...

Odd that they would up I-265 to 65 but leave I-64 at 55.  That is going to trip some people up.

I think that they are counting on that for catching more speeders.  I always feel that there is more traffic on I-265 and I-65 rather than I-64, so I would seem that this should be the other way around so that I-64 gets the increase and the other two no change.

Also give a Speed reward for using the Toll Bridges, with a Speed Trap punishment for using the Free Interstate Bridge, perhaps?

It's INDOT changing the speed limits, not ISP. Contrary to ignorant belief, law enforcement agencies have nothing to do with setting speed limits, and their only "cut" of the ticket is $4.00 to their training fund.

The county I live in will change limits on county roads based on speed studies, which I assume INDOT does as well. It's my understanding there is a law that governs the changing of speed limits. The only thing the sheriff's department does is radar traffic and turn in a report to the county highway department and they do the speed limit adjustment based on some formula or whatnot.

While INDOT is at it, how about working on getting IN 265 designated as I-265?

I second that motion! Seems all INDOT can do now is screw up their website, making it more difficult to find anything there (biting my tongue to avoid making any political comments).
