That's really cool to hear (that area has had construction for years)! Is the bridge striped for 3 lanes, or is it still just 2? I know it's built for 3x3, but just curious.

It was built for 3 lane traffic each way but will be stripped for 2.

It is curved across the river, should make for interesting watching during icy weather. They better have a traffic cam as I have the popcorn.

As long as they are only running 2 lanes for each carriageway, I too would consider it "stripped." :-D

Where is Interstate 40's White River Bridge? Around what milepost is it located? I want to look it up on Google Maps and see it for myself via Street View.

It's good that ArDOT is thinking forward on the White River Bridge replacement, as it would be a central component to adding a lane in each direction between Memphis and Little Rock. From a technical and cost perspective, the White River Bridge is one of largest pieces of that puzzle. So getting that done will make the overall widening along the corridor a lot easier.

Not always shortsighted, but still much more frequently so than we'd prefer...

As I understand it, the did the same thing on the I-30 Red River Bridge. Both were about the same age and have a similar traffic volume.

Why was the I-30 bridge not built with future expansion similar to I-40?

Didn't ArDOT redeck the old bridge about 7 years ago? I seem to recall taking US70 thru DeValls Bluff to avoid the traffic jams.

They were working on that 9 years ago. I hit a full stop at Brinkley on a Sunday afternoon ... 14 miles away.
