How do I insert an image from my desktop to a post? When I click the "Insert Image" button, all that shows up is [ img ][ /img ] without the spaces. It doesn't prompt me to choose a picture. Sorry. This the third question I've asked today.

It's OK. We'll understand since you're new.

You have to host the image on a third party site to get an actual link to the photo to paste between the tags. I generally use imgur, but there are others.

Man, another website I have to sign up for. I'm kidding, thanks for the tip.

Make sure the .jpg file is there otherwise the image will not show up.

Then put an equal sign = then close the link with this "]"!

You can do that, but you don't have to.

[img]paste link here[/img]

... works as well

I was thinking hyperlinks and wasn't really directed to this question so I deleted it.

You could also use the Tapatalk app to access the forum from a mobile device on which the photo is saved. Tapatalk can host the photo for you. Of course you'd need to register for the app.

One option is uploading photos to Imgur, then copying the BBCode link, paste it directly into your post here (don't add the [img] brackets as it's already part of the imgur link).

Assuming you already have a Facebook, Twitter, Apple or Google account, you don't need a new account for it.

I do wish you could download images directly from your computer to the forum.

I'm able to upload to the gallery, although I have no idea why I was given access initially.
Clinched, minus I-93 (I'm missing a few miles and my file is incorrect)

Traveled, plus US 13, 44, and 50, and several state routes

I will be in Burlington VT for the eclipse.

For me, it's gallery → add picture. Only some people have access. I stopped using it once I got a Flickr account.

I can't do that. But I use Imgur so no big deal.

I'm still not entirely sure what gets automatically resized and what doesn't. I previously thought that any non-SVG with width over 800 got resized proportionally (height alone won't trigger it), with clicking bringing it to full size, but then I saw one that was full size by default somewhere.

Maybe it has to be a certain amount above 800? I've never clicked one and gotten a minor increase in size such as 800 → 900, so that's my guess.

(I'm also not entirely sure if the SVG exception even exists, but I think it does.)

I'll often manually resize the images that I post. If I have to scroll to see the whole thing on my laptop screen, it's too big.

Upload, and the reason we don't offer that to everyone is because all of the images would cost Alex a ton of money to host. We'd have to start a Patreon or something.

I am not sure who made the decision to give a few users upload access or on what basis it was done.

To add another point to that, for those who don't understand why you can't simply post a picture that's on your PC, think about it in practical terms: Unless you leave your PC on, and connected to the Internet, on a 24/7 basis, the picture would not necessarily always appear on the forum. If your PC is turned off at a given moment, someone who has previously viewed a thread and whose browser cached the page might see the image, but someone who's viewing it for the first time won't see it (because it's not available to load). Hence why the image has to be hosted somewhere.

This also means that any random person needs to have access to connect to your computer at any given time, meaning holes have to be left in your computer's security system specifically allowing people a route in to access that file. Most people wouldn't want that, nor would they have the patience to manage the ensuing security risks responsibly.

Additionally, since you probably don't have a domain name (whatever.com) attached to your computer, you would have to go by IP address, which for most residential Internet customers changes every time their router restarts. So the link would only be good until the next time you restart your router anyway.

Or the next time they log into their VPN.  Which, in my case, happens at least once a day.
