Finished working on an entry about the Hurricane Ridge Road:

Unfortunately there isn't much information that I could dig up on when the Hurricane Ridge Road was built.  The latest highway map I could find of Washington State on David Rumsey was from 1956 which did not show the Hurricane Ridge Road.  I do know there was a preexisting trail from Port Angeles up to Hurricane Ridge that roughly corresponds to the roadway.  If anyone has maps from post-1956 or some other source with solid citations please let me know.  I would imagine the road is fairly modern given the gentle grade and curvature.  I didn't see dates on the tunnels but I might have missed them in the clouds.  Unfortunately the GSV doesn't have any images of the Hurricane Ridge Road beyond the entrance station.

Before it opened, Hurricane Ridge Road was called the "Heart o' the Hills National Park Highway," and several old issues of the Peninsula Daily News from Port Angeles (at newspapers.com) have stories about the construction during 1957. Just a few:

3/8/1957: https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/16281277/
10/15/1957: https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/16296071/
12/17/1957: https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/16300146/

It looks like the highway opened January 1, 1958:

Barring any major change in the weather, the Heart o' the Hills National Park Highway to Hurricane Ridge will be open at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Well, that was easy enough.  I'll get an update going some time today, appreciate it.

Topo maps in the 1961-70s label the road Heart of the Hills Rd within the park and Secondary State Route 9-G Mt. Angeles Rd outside of it...

...and I believe it was signed as "Temporary SR 111" from 1964 to circa 1971, when it was dropped altogether from the state highway system.
Alright, this is how it's gonna be!
