Title: Kitchen Dick Road
Post by: Max Rockatansky on May 26, 2018, 11:41:54 PM
I happened to pass it on my recent trip to Washington so why not?

So does anyone have the real story of what is up with the name "Kitchen Dick" or even the nearby "Woodcock" Road?  Suffice to say searches on the internet for information might yield some questionable results.  Yahoo won't even look at images without Safe Search turned off.

I see a large tract of land owned by a W. Dick in 1942: http://www.historicmapworks.com/Map/US/31821/Page+009+++Carlsborg++Dungenness+River++Agnew/Clallam+County+1942/Washington/
And a small lot on the corner owned by D.B. Kitchen in 1970 (the road is labeled Dick Lane): http://www.historicmapworks.com/Map/US/1253461/Township+30+N+++Range+4+W+++Agnew++Carlsborg++Strait+of+Juan+De+Fuca/Clallam+County+1970/Washington/
A 1995 map labels it Bill Dick Road: http://www.historicmapworks.com/Map/US/1329153/Page+009+++Township+30+N++Range+4+W+++Carlsborg++Agnew/Clallam+County+1995/Washington/

So these roads weren't named by someone with a sick sense of humor?

Seems like almost all the roads north of Sequim are named after former property owners.  Kind of amusing that they would select out of all them; "Dick,"  "Kitchen"  and "Woodcock."    I'm still assuming someone knew exactly what they were choosing when those names were picked.  Looked like there was plenty of other land owner names to pick from.
