Updated.  Not sure what epzik means by his post, though (hasn't been on a route 2?).

I can now take my "number streak" up to 122.
Please, don't sue Alex & Andy over what I wrote above

Might as well answer for myself:

1: CA, MI
2: US
3: WA, CA
4: I-4, CA
5: I-5, MN, MI
6: OR, MI
7: WA
8: I-8, MI

12: US, CA
13: CA, MN
14: WA, MI
15: I-15
16: WA, CA
17: CA
18: WA

Haven't been on a 19. Have crossed both WA-19 and CA-19 but not been on either. And unfortunately closing that gap wouldn't move me up much since I haven't been on a 21 either!

It looks like I can go up to 87 (using travel mapping as my resource: http://travelmapping.net/shields/clinched.php?units=km&u=7_8&cort=traveled). Therefore, 88 is my lowest route I haven't been on. I may have missed some routes but this already took too long :-D.

The lowest number for me is 248.  When I still lived in the DC area, the closest I would have ever gotten would have been old MD-248.  Unfortunately, that was decommissioned some 70+ years ago.  Presently there is no FL-248, so I think this number will stick for a while.

Looks like 102 for me.  I will have to solve that with a trip to Meadville PA sometime.

There's a CR 248 northeast of Branford off FL 247, though Street View's old images do not show signs.

By virtue of driving on part of FL 47 over the holiday break, my lowest numbered route that I haven't been on has increased from 47 to 53.

This range has a couple of close calls:
I drove on MD 46 many times while numbered as such, but it is now decommissioned.  But to me it counts!
The only 48 I could find was a couple of blocks of NC 48 in Rocky Mount, shorter than any Highway Browser single segment - but I was on it.
NC 49 only had a block where it was concurrent with US 64 near Asheboro, but I at least have a reasonable segment of Iceland 49 to legitimize the number.

Now to start looking for a route 53 near me :)

I finally figured mine out. It's 142.

That's a shame.  IL-142 is a rather pleasant drive.

Belay that. I've been on KY 142, as it has a short concurrency with KY 54. Now to go back and see what my next route might be.

This is hard for me, because I've clinched New York (which has most numbers below the 400s) and done a decent amount of driving in Pennsylvania and Ohio, which have lots of routes.

The lowest number not present in New York is 47, but I have been on that route in 6 other states. Next is 57...3 states. Then it's 152, which I have also been on in 3 states. 154 I have been on in CT, 181 in MA and NJ, 188 in CT and OH, 191 in 3 states plus the US route, 192 in CT.

194, however, I have nothing for. Route doesn't exist in NY and I have never been on any of the I-194s. If I had (may need to head over to Hartford to clinch CT 194...), my lowest would be 288.

Travel Mapping (updated weekly)

I was just thinking about this and came up with an interesting and semi-related question:

What is the lowest number that is not in use anywhere?  (Positive integers only, so no smart-asses need post with huge negative numbers.  Or fractional numbers.  :pan: )

Feel free to apply whatever ground rules you like, keeping with the spirit of the question.  USA only, or the whole world.  Posted only, or both posted and non-posted.  Might be interesting to see the lowest unused number among those documented in the "Travel Mapping" database.

As it applies to this topic, it would indicate an upper bound that some of our more intrepid travelers may choose to chase.  :bigass:

TM doesn't cover a lot of secondary routes in Pennsylvania and North Carolina with numbers (no route markers, but sometimes signed in some other way) in the 1000s.

I'm not awake enough, or adept enough at programming, to search for the lowest unused number in the TM database, especially with some non-U.S. jurisdictions (and a few in the U.S.) including some very high-numbered routes.

The number would be very high given places like Kentucky and Texas (given Farm or Ranch to Market Routes).

Among routes currently mapped in TM, the lowest unrepresented number is 1386, and the only other numbers less than 1500 that are not represented are 1467, 1478, 1480, and 1493.
