Keep going south on US 42, then go west on US 42 when it crosses the river, to Florence. That gives a couple more options to play from.

Yes (and also GA 365, for that matter), at least if we're assuming that US 123 is, in fact, a north-south route, which is debatable at best.

US 65 doesn't go to Marshalltown, but no worries, we will just say the previous play took US 65 to Bondurant, and then get back on US 65 down to Pine Bluff, Arkansas.  Taken on I-30.  July 23, 2015.

This game's been dormant for over a year and a half, but with the recent revival of The road sign city name photo game I thought it's worth a try on this one.  I know I have a lot more to choose from in my collection now, and we have some participants in these kinds of games who weren't around back in 2019.

So all I can do to get us out of Branson is to stay on US 65 and go up to Lucas, Iowa.  Taken July 29, 2018.
