The Blue Ridge Road railroad underpass is also going to require a closure of Hillsborough Street (NC-54) at the State Fairgrounds.  Detours will be likely start tomorrow night (Saturday, March 4).  Sorry, the ads on WRAL make this article nearly unreadable.

I'm curious as whether if pedestrian traffic to the Fairgrounds from the south side of the North Carolina Rail Road corridor will still be severed this coming Fall.  It's been a while since I've been to the State Fair, but I could always depend on free parking at the old K-mart at the corner of Western Boulevard and Blue Ridge Road.  Even when the K-Mart was still open, there was never anybody there on weekends when the fair was running.  Looks like Sears has relocated its appliance repair shops to that location.  Only a small section of the parking lot is being maintained.

^ I want to say this got discussed in the general NC thread, but here is a link to the NCDOT layout:

https://www.ncdot.gov/projects/i-440-improvements/Documents/pre-construction-map-6-blue-ridge-hillsborough.pdf

The NCDOT press release from last week announcing the Hillsborough closure mentioned that, once Hillsborough reopens, Blue Ridge Rd will be closed south of the railroad until project completion next year.  So my guess is that for this year's state fair the answer to your question would be "no".

It was mentioned in my RDU Meet Notes.  The link should still be viewable from that thread.

Someone please get them or the City of Raleigh to repave Oberlin Rd. It's awful in its entirety.

I drove on the new 440 pavement between Glenwood and Six forks today. 200% improvement over the old surface.

Several ramp and road closures along I-440 West this weekend as part of Beltline and Blue Ridge Road improvement projects, with a new alignment for I-440 between Western Blvd. and the Crossroads Shopping Plaza coming Monday:

Not in Raleigh city limits, but close enough. NCDOT is holding a public meeting on Nov. 20 in Cary to discuss a proposed grade separation where Trinity Road crosses the railroad.

Closer to Durham, but this signal replacement was notable to me as the last-known double-red left turn signal to be replaced in North Carolina from when those where commonplace (i.e. like South Carolina). Replaced between 2019 and 2021.

How is the I-40 widening SE of Raleigh coming along?  They've gotta be close to completion by now.  Seems like it's been taking forever.

NJRoadfan

I-40 from I-440 to US-70 Bypass (future I-42) is completed and opened. The only work that remains is around the NC-42/Cleveland Rd. interchange. Right now there is a really abrupt drop from 4 to 2 lanes eastbound at US-70 that will likely be fixed once the rest of the project, including the NC-540 interchange is complete.

The Ghostbuster

Now if they can just get Interstate 42 signposted. Then they'd really be in business.

Tall retaining wall for the 440 westbound ramp to Wade Ave.

Working on the two-lane ramp from 440 WB to Wade.

May see a traffic shift before long once the Hillsborough Rd. bridge is ready.

The four-wheelers can take the Wade to 440 EB ramp OK, but the tractor-trailers lose a lot of speed due to the curve and grade. This ramp will eventually be two lanes once the ramp to Wade Ave. is complete and the temporary ramp is removed.

Ramp/bridge for 440 EB to Wade Ave. WB.

Work at the Athens Dr. overpass.

Western Blvd. still needs another bridge.

Ligon Street underpass overpass.

Sticky mess on I-440 at Wade Avenue last night.  A semi-truck carrying steak sauce spilled its load in the construction zone.  Here's a link to the WRAL report:

QuoteA sticky situation: Steak sauce spills all over I-440 East after tractor-trailer crash near Wade Ave.

It looks like the accident occurred on the ramp from I-440 westbound -to- Wade Avenue westbound, but I can't be sure.  Also looks like it was a generic commercial type of steak sauce.  That avoids any "roadworthy" comments about A-1 or Heinz.
