Decided to start a new thread about major NS road projects
One of them got me excited: the NS Highway 107 Extension or the Highway 107 Sackville-Bedford-Burnside Connector.
Basically, it's going to be a 4-lane freeway extension for nine kilometers with interchanges at Highway 102, a future interchange near Anderson Lake, and a split diamond that connects to Burnside Drive, Akerley Boulevard, and future Burnside expansions.
Here is a link:

Map of the project:

Feel free to post any major projects from this province.
I think Nova Scotia should convert its exit numbers from sequential to kilometer-based, like the rest of Canada.

I think Nova Scotia should convert its exit numbers from sequential to kilometer-based, like the rest of Canada.
Newfoundland-and-Labrador have sequential exit numbering system too.
In fact, Nova Scotia have a particular system; on Hwys 101 and 103, km-markers start from zero at western terminals, in Yarmouth, while exit numbers start from 1 at eastern terminals, in Halifax for the 103, and in Bedford for the 101.
But I'm with you on that point; they should convert their system.
I wonder why they didn't used a part of the Bedford bypass as a gap of NS-107?
I have a couple of questions:
1. Is NS still considering Route 113?
2. Any plans on linking 101 and 103?

The problem seems to be the space available to make ramps that allow access in all directions. I did Bedford Bypass a couple of times, and there's not so much room to build ramps because the NS-102/NS-101 interchange is close, the actual ramps of this interchange already have sharp curves, and the area is much mountainous. It's sure that on a map, it looks more logic to connect the NS-107 extension with the Bedford Bypass, but it won't be physically possible, IMHO.
It does seem like somewhat of a missed opportunity to connect 107 directly to Highway 101 at the Bedford By-pass interchange. The Bedford By-pass interchange at Highway 102 isn't a great in my opinion. But, it would probably cost a lot do something with that interchange.
A new segment of NS101 has opened in Digby County, between Conway and Marshalltown:

(Should I assume the bypassed segment will become Trunk 1?)

Sorry for the very very late reply, but someone on Skyscraperpage forum posted this old study about NS-102 between NS-101 and NS-107 extension.

Talk about a missed opportunity.
Time to bump this thread, there'll be a new exit on NS-101 desserving Cambridge and Waterville from what I saw on Skyscraperpage forums.

This new exit will help so much in the area; it will divert Waterville Michelin Tire plant truck traffic from Trunk 1, that is very rough around NS-101's exit 14, as well as it will give some breathe to people living along the Trunk 1.
Any info on the 104 twinning? I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned.

Digging through Nova Scotia's 2023-2024 Five-Year Highway Improvement plan, they are investing more than $583 million toward six new major
construction projects over seven years. The projects include:
- Highway 103 Argyle Interchange (Exit 32 and 32A) - replacing three at-grade intersections with an interchange at Exit 32 (https://novascotia.ca/tran/highways/highway-103-argyle-interchange.pdf)
- Highway 103 Exit 6 to Exit 7 and Exit 7 to Exit 8 Twinning - two separate projects to twin the section between the four-lane sections
- Highway 104 Taylors Road to Paqtnkek - Twinning (continuation of twinning Highway 104 east of Antigonish)
- Highway 107 Burnside to west of Loon Lake -Twinning
- Tancook Ferry Infrastructure Development
This investment also includes access improvements for non twinned 100-series
highways. That work involves improving intersections, adding passing lanes, and
turning lanes as well as roundabouts.

New Interchange for Broadway, Pictou County
https://novascotia.ca/news/release/?id=20230831006
A new (partial) exit 28 interchange will be coming to the ~20-kilometer section between exits 27 and 29 in Broadway, and it will be an eastbound exit and westbound entrance.
The new interchange is also expected to reduce traffic for people living along Trunk 4 in the area.
Design work is already underway, and the project is expected to cost about $9 million. Construction is expected to begin early this fall and be complete next summer.
Dexter Nova Alliance, the Province's partner on the Highway 104 twinning project, is leading the interchange project.
https://novascotia.ca/tran/highways/highway-107-twinning-burnside-lake-loon.pdf
A section of Highway 107 will be twinned between exits 13 and 14. This section carries an average of 15k vehicles a day, and it will continue to grow as this area gets developed.
Project Description: NSDPW is in the planning and design phase for the twinning of Highway 107 Burnside to Lake Loon in Halifax County. The proposed project continues from the Highway 107 Sackville-Bedford-Burnside Connector project through the Highway 118 Exit 13 interchange; ramps 13N, 13E and 13W will be realigned to accommodate the twinning. Between Highway 118 and the Montague Road Interchange, the corridor will be upgraded to a 100-Series six lane roadway with a jersey barrier median, comprised of four 3.7-meter highway lanes, and two 3.5-meter auxiliary lanes. The auxiliary lanes will connect the on/off ramps between Highway 118 and Montague Road and will then transition to a four-lane jersey barrier median that will taper back to the existing Forest Hills Extension, totaling 5.5 km in length.
The Cogswell interchange in downtown Halifax is no more.

Pushing the twinning project further west on Hwy 103... https://novascotia.ca/tran/highways/Highway-103-Fact-Sheet.pdf
This project is a continuation of the Ingramport to Hubbards twinned section of Hwy 103.
Project is broken down into two phases.
Phase 1: Hubbards to East River (between exits 6-7). Includes a replacement of exit 7 from a trumpet to a diamond interchange.
Phase 2: East River to Chester (between exits 7-8). Two new roundabouts at the exit 8 ramps.
Phase I (Hubbards to East River) is currently programmed to begin in 2024-2025 as a major construction project on the Five-Year Highway Improvement Plan. Phase II (East River to Chester) is currently programmed to begin in 2025-2026 as a major construction project on the Five-Year Highway Improvement Plan.
Taking us back to the OP, the NS107 extension is open:

If anyone can help me confirm the new exit numbers, I'd be much obliged.

A Facebook post (https://www.facebook.com/groups/592859740828399/posts/8042901962490769/) reports "Exit 28 ramps are now open!" on NS104, but I haven't seen anything official.
Edit: Aw shucks. I don't have 1337 posts anymore!

Interesting - how is the province planning to fund future maintenance of these bridges?
The highway 104 brand new rest areas are now open. I took a look at the eastbound one; the westbound one is typically the same.

This is the building seen from the truck parking lot. On the right, it's my workhorse.

In the central area, there's a washing counter, with a part of the counter lowered, so the kids can also wash their hands.

The building again, but from the car parking lot.
Despite the fact that the building is brand new, I'm a bit disappointed; I didn't see any vending machine, so the place is just a basic rest area. At first, it was supposed to open in fall of 2023, but was postponed to fall of 2024, and finally open in spring of 2025, but I'd seen nothing that can justify a one-an-a-half year delay. COVID-19 was easy to blame, in this case.
But it's nice and clean, so enjoy!
