The Plans for 70-106 KA 4111-01 (signage on I-70 in KDOT district 2) have been posted, as have the approved bids for October.

Clarkson has the approved bid on the 435 project. They also happen to be part of the Johnson County Gateway project.

The proposed bike lane/shared bike route proposal along 12th and 10th is finally awarded!

To be honest, I'm surprised there were any. 2 more years of Brownback routinely taking money away from transportation. :banghead:

169-63 KA-2374-02: Reconstruction of US 169 near a RR Crossing of the South Kansas and Oklahoma Railroad south of Cherryvale.

Are they going to make it a grade separation?  I can't imaging there is enough rail traffic on that line to justify it.

Nope, looks like pavement reconstruction just north and south of the crossing. Something tells me the crossing itself was recently redone by KDOT and/or WATCO.

EDIT! After review, the project is an overlay combined with paved shoulders, as well as removing the "Rough Crossing" designation from the SK&O crossing.

Running extra:

10-23 KA-3634-07: Traffic signal improvements on the west leg of the South Lawrence Trafficway at Wakarusa Drive/27th Street. The project includes new signals and mast arms for K-10 [SLT] traffic to provide signal heads for all lanes including phasing for protected left turns.  Signal timing will be developed to provide an increase in operational improvement at the intersection.  Wildcat Concrete Services was the approved bidder with a bid of $108,770. This project was let by the City of Lawrence, and the approval of this bid was on the consent agenda at the 2/21 meeting. KDOT will reimburse the city for the full amount.

As this project was let by the City instead of KDOT, I haven't seen the plans.

I suppose KDOT thought the TWLTL unnecessary, as there aren't that many curb cuts out there...

I had a look at the involved length in StreetView to see if there was an obvious answer to Kyle's question, and I don't see one.  TWLTL elimination is often an access-control measure, but there is a railroad line on the east side (therefore few, if any, property accesses on that side), and it becomes open and rural (uncurbed with hard strip, 55 limit) not far south of the signal at 159th St.  It may be that issues have developed with head-on collisions as a result of the TWLTL being used as a de facto speed change lane, or sideswipe collisions from traffic seeking to turn left off US 169 conflicting with traffic turning out of driveways or side roads and using the TWLTL to stage the turn.

Didn't want to start a new thread about this...

I've noticed recently that all of the detour signage for K-196 has a thin gold border around the route shield.  Is anyone aware of this being a new standard, or is it a one-off?  They're like that at both ends, in Sedgwick and in Butler counties.

What is the likelihood that the same contractor who did those signs was also responsible for ones in Crawford County?  I noticed on Monday that all of the new, permanent K-126 route shields along US-400 near McCune (after the recent improvements through there) have the same gold border.

Work was actively underway along that stretch back when I was there in late September, and almost all signs had been removed.  I remember this specifically, because I was meeting someone at that very junction; I had given them a mile marker number to look for, and it (fortunately!) happened to be the only mile marker left standing in the construction.  So these route shields are definitely new installations.

I recall seeing K-5 shields in Wyandotte County that featured the gold border several years ago. I asked around at the time and the prevailing theory was that the manufacturer added gold border to avoid problems with the black process ink running off the edge of the blank. (K- shields are made the same way as warning signs; yellow sheeting for the background printed with black ink.)
