What is the project going on at I-95 just south of the junction with I-295?

I think you are referring to this.

No its a new lane.

It's both, but they haven't started on anything beyond the SR 141 interchange project yet, at least within the past couple weeks.

Have you drove on I-95 yet? They are digging the lane for I-95/295 merge & they are prepping to put the metal beams on the 141 bridges.

Edit: if thats the plans for the 896 project. I dont think thats what the guy was asking about. He was asking about 95/295.

OK so they are adding a lane between the 95/295 SB junction and the SR1 exit?

They are increasing the merge for the 295/95 merge on the left.

From 141 SB they are adding a lane in the shoulder. All the way up to exit Churchmans Crossing.

Gotcha, so this is just from the 295/95 merge to SR1, an extra aux lane?

I guess though 295 when it merges with 95 will still be only 2 lanes at the entrance?

I believe the 295/95 Merge will be 3 lanes now.

& a new lane on the shoulder from 141 to Churchmans crossing will help alleviate the congestion from the left & those exiting onto Churchmans crossing.

It will, yes. After I-295 merges in, its left lane will end and its right lane will continue on as the left-most lane of I-95.

The right shoulder lane will come in from the SR 141 C/D road.

This will greatly help the merge area though. It gets really tight right there especially including the C/D so pushing the merge up a mile plus adding that new lane will make this like the NJTP.

But like Beltway or @P said before, they should have put the 295 merge on the right along with the C/D.

OK...so right now

-295 SB goes 2 lanes after the 495 exit until it meets 95
-At the junction it becomes 5 lanes until exit 4B

So with construction it will become...

If I recall correctly from Alex4897 or Alps said it will be 7 or 8 lanes.

So...

1.  295 SB after the 495 exit will get a 3rd lane from there until the junction with 95.
2.  95 SB from the junction with 295 to exit 4B will go from 5 lanes to 6 lanes

That's the project?

Not a permanent 6 lanes.  What DelDOT is doing is hardening the outside shoulder for use as a lane during peak periods.  It will not be a lane 24/7.  And it will only be between the 141 on-ramp and the Churchmans Rd exit.

For a brief moment.

Basically, directly under 141 where 295 has merged into 95, it will be 3 lanes from 95 and 3 lanes from 295.

In the C/D area for 141, there's 1 thru aux lane, and 1 decel/accel lane between the cloverleaf ramps for 141, which will equal 8 lanes total.  Also, then there will be 6 lanes on 95, and 1 aux lane, 1 accel lane from 141 South to 95 South.

So there's 8 lanes total at max, but 2 of those lanes are for the 141 ramps, and that condition will last for less than 1/4 mile combined in 2 different places.

As it stands today, there's already 7 lanes in those areas.  The only difference in the future will be the 3rd lane from 295 merging in.

bluecountry

Damn that is a confusing interchange.
OK so basically:

1.  295 after 495 to 95 junction will go from 2 to 3 lanes SB
2.  95 SB between 295 and exit 5 will be 5 or 6 lanes?
3.  95 SB from exit 5 to exit 4 will be 5+1 extra shoulder lane at peak

That it?

Yes & this will help the traffic move along better during rush hour. Wait till the project is done & youll see the upgrades.

Also who wants to bet we will see many tickets given out for driving in the shoulder lane during non rush hour times.

Thanks, and this will be just SB 95, nothing NB on 95 or 295?

Anyone know the status of this project.

This will be great for the connection of 495 & the Riverfront area of NE. There would be big changes when this happens.

Anything I'm finding seems to indicate the project started in 2019.  Have you been in the area lately to see if was already worked on?
