I used to think the same thing when I lived in Jacksonville.  However, FL-10 is the secret route assigned to US-90, except for this quirky little section that is posted as FL-10 separate from US-90.  That being said, the secret part of FL-10 actually crosses the St. Johns River on the Main Street Bridge and heads west on Beaver Street (not touching I-10 until it crosses between Macclenny and Lake City some 45 miles west of Jacksonville).

That's what I meant to address by specifying it as a signed continuation--the general public isn't aware of the secret parts on US 90/US 90 Alt. west of Jacksonville.

when M-5 in Michigan was being proposed, the route (north of I-696) was for a time designated as M-275 (which was north of the terminus of I-275 at the Junction of I-96 and I-696).
