When I'm out in rural areas, I have to admit I have a certain affinity for the classic diamond.

In urban areas, though, my preference is for the most complex spaghetti bowls imaginable. The interchange between I-5, CA-14 is one that comes to mind. Regular lanes, truck lanes, the Old Road, Foothill Boulevard, it's all a wonderful mess. The jumble around Newark airport comes to mind as well.

I'm nostalgic for the rotary interchanges that are so common in Massachusetts, of which I can't think of a single example in California. There are several along I-95 around Boston.

Stacks. Especially if there is a double deck component or they are asymmetrical. The more ramps and bridges and twisty bits the better. Left exits right exits, all of it.

Outside of cities and big junctions, I love our slip ramp to frontage road system here in Texas. I especially love braided ramps

Stacks. They are the Cadillac of interchanges: no weaving movements, high speeds possible on left turns, relatively small footprint, and they make for spectacular civic monuments.
