I-35 at US 380 in Denton is almost always backed up, most times onto the Interstate, so that's my pick for North Texas.

My first ever post on this forum... I actually looked up the busiest interchange and this came up, so I put it here. Does anyone know if the interchange is actually busy?

In San Francisco the busiest one would have to be the I-80 @ Folsom Street off ramp given that its the Financial District.

Oakland I-880 @ 7th Street and West Grand Ave because of the Port of Oakland.


Sacramento its the I-5 at J street off ramp, US-50 @ Tower Bridge Gateway because destination is to Downtown.

Los Angeles there are multiple ones that can be considered like I-710 @ Harbor Scenic Drive because of the Port of Long Beach.

What's the first? Anecdotally, my guess is Florida SR 56 north of Tampa, but now I'm curious enough to look it up.

A few exits in the Cincinnati and Columbus areas that feel noticeably busy to me:
- I-71 exit 12: US 22/OH 3
- I-71 exit 19: Mason-Montgomery Rd/Fields Ertel Rd
- I-275 exit 42: OH 747
- I-275 exit 63: OH 32
- I-270 exit 20: Sawmill Rd
- I-270 exit 23: US 23
- I-270 exit 32: Morse Rd

I've lived in both cities and none of the others you mentioned feel as busy as I-270 at US 23, especially before the 270/23/315 interchange reconfiguration.

MORPC/ODOT traffic counts for I-270 through there have it at 200,000 vehicles a day. The busiest stretch of highway in Franklin County.

Just along I-75. The busiest is in that area you mentioned so I'm assuming that Florida SR 56 is it.

Just along I-75. The busiest is in that area you mentioned so I'm assuming that Florida SR 56 is it.

I was just there for their Auto Fest.  I believe it.

Yesterday was a prime example of exit 136 being at it's busiest. With the Auto Fest going on in Frankenmuth the exit was extremely busy. You couldn't even make a left turn out of Conlee's Truck Stop as Birch Run Road was backed up coming from Frankenmuth all the way from I-75 to Gera Road which is about 2 miles.

I was at Conlee's and didn't even attempt to make a left turn, I turned right, then turned left on Dixie Highway and went up to the Bridgeport exit to get on NB I-75. I was punching it when I was on Dixie too doing about 73 mph in a 55 zone in a few spots. Today is the last day of the Auto Fest so that exit will be bad again today.

Then you weren't far from me depending on what time of the day you were there. I stopped into the Halo Burger on the other side of the overpass.

If we're including freeway/freeway connections that aren't interstate/interstate, then there are several likely candidates involving US 101, in the LA area and SF Bay Area.

My nomination would be SB US 101 --> SB I-405 (or its reverse).

I've looked it up several times. These and those involving CASR-134 show ADT at more than the "safe" 43200 per lane...

It really would be nice if the traffic lights along Birch Run Road were synced to to run together and stay green for about 60 seconds or so. The traffic gets backed up beyond Dixie Highway frequently and it always seems like there is something going on in Frankenmuth every weekend. But the Friday after Thanksgiving is the ultimate worse and opening day of hunting season is a nice one as well as the summer weekend up north traffic.

If I had to take a stab at busiest freeway exits to surface streets, I would say:

In the L.A. area, I-105 WB exit to Sepulveda Blvd north, which takes the bulk of LAX traffic and is very frequently overburdened.

In the D.C. area, I-495 at VA-7 which is in Tysons Corner.  I-395 near the Pentagon also has very heavy exits, but many of the Pentagon ring roads qualify as expressways.

In NYC, I-278's exit to the Brooklyn Bridge is also heavy since it provides a direct connection to Manhattan and avoids the toll on the Battery Tunnel.  I don't know if the bridge is "expressway like" in the context of this thread.

When they say that the Birch Run exit (Exit 136) on I-75 in Michigan is the second busiest exit on I-75 I do believe they are excluding Interstate to Interstate exits because I just don't see how it's the second busiest exit on I-75. It is a very busy exit but I-75 travels through Detroit, Cincinnati, Atlanta and Tampa and into Miami. I would have guessed that an exit in one of those metros was the busiest but I'm not sure.

CA 110 SB at 4th/6th/Wilshire has got to be one of the busiest. Same with the 405 at Century/Imperial and 105 at Sepulveda.

Flint mentioned the I-75 and SR 56 in Wesley Chapel, FL.  There is a few on I-4.

Exit 55 in Davenport.
Exit 58 in Champion Gate.
Exit 74A in Orlando.
Exit 79 in Orlando.
Exit 92 in Altamonte.
Exit 101C in Sanford.
