Ribbon Cutting for I-49/ 8th Street interchange will be tomorrow. Sadly, I'll be heading the other direction at that time.

They're done with that already? I'm in a bit of shock. Or maybe it's just that I haven't lived there in a while. I'm assuming that was a multi-year project.
I've never been a fan of the tight diamond they're putting in. A SPUI at 8th and at 14th/Hudson with braided ramps always made more sense to me, but I'm not the engineering team that decided that.
On a side note, I watched the 5News clip of the opening. What's with the cops and the formation thing they did with the guns? Is that a normal thing for an interchange opening?

I don't think so, but I didn't see it/ didn't get to go.
ALSO: it won't officially open for another month. Must have been the only day the politicians were available to thank themselves.

Just up there on Saturday and no it's not open yet. Exit 86 is an even bigger cluster than normal with lanes closed on the ramps and on 62/102 both with resurfacing going on. Still recommended to avoid that area if you can.
Wait, what?
So they had a "ribbon-cutting" and the interchange isn't ready for traffic?
That's so sad. And yet, doesn't surprise me.

They did that with the 412 "bypass", too.

I'll be glad when it gets to the point you don't have to put quotes around "bypass". I'd use a completed western leg almost exclusively to cut off some of the county roads and AR-112 to get to points north of Springdale.
Looks like there were some unforeseen complications that set construction back (typical Arkansas)
