An important Christmas family gathering in Port Huron, Michigan, doubled as a Roads Scholaring, and it yielded many a roadly exhibit.

This outing predated my whooping cough battle and broken finger, and you're gonna peep the whole thing until your face flies off in public...

I dug the Ohio portion because it feels sort of alien to me. But the Michigan portion pics could've been taken in southern New England; except for the diamond-shaped state road symbol.

More importantly, you got me to look up the Dixie Highway. I imagine a lot of poor southerners, both black and white, traveled these roads to look for work at the Detroit auto factories.

Why should this surprise you?  Michigan's original settlers (including my ancestors), outside of some French Canadians, were from New England.

I wouldn't call it surprising, but I've never been there; except for a stop at DTW.

You should do an in-depth visit some day.  Some of the small towns can look very much like places in New England.

Here's a few from the Upper Peninsula:

Readin, Ritin, and Route 23. I've also heard Route 25.

Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.
