Decided to create a Flickr page.  I decided to post some of the mad fun I had with Microsoft Paint creating exit signs.

Interstates I've clinched: 97, 290 (MA), 291 (CT), 291 (MA), 293, 295 (DE-NJ-PA), 295 (RI-MA), 384, 391, 395 (CT-MA), 395 (MD), 495 (DE), 610 (LA), 684, 691, 695 (MD), 695 (NY), 795 (MD)

Every day is a winding road, you just got to get used to it.

With the future of Roadfan.com uncertain, I finally put my flickr account to use after 7 years.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/roadfan_reborn/
At this time, it is mostly photos I took from 1998-2006, with some various maps I copied over the years.
All my work, since 2010, is documented on Facebook (for better or for worse). I'm planning on copying it to my Flickr account as time (and bandwidth) allows it.

I take pictures of road signs, that's about it.

General rule of thumb: Just stay in the "Traffic Control" section of the forum and you'll be fine.

Mostly a bunch of signs in the Salt Lake City area.

I have posted a bunch of new albums to Flickr.

THe Legacy Pkwy sign intrigues me.  SO are there some times of the day when trucks are allowed and some when they are prohibited so that they put the restriction on an electronic sign?

I've never seen that before.

Usually trucks are not allowed. However, trucks are temporarily allowed on Legacy if there is a major accident on I-15. In this case, the electronic sign changes to a green circle around the truck picture.

I have 11 photos from around Columbia, MO on I-70 if anyone interested.  I put them into a nice little gallery, but for those curious to see the freeway and its signage.

I noticed when I zoom in on some photos on Flickr from a desktop, some zoom in really large and it takes up the whole screen while other photos zoom in only an inch or so.  Anybody know why?
I only take pics of good looking signs. Long live non-reflective button copy!

^ Probably depends on the size of the image.  A 24 megapixel image with 6,000 horizontal by 4,000 vertical pixels is going to be able to be zoomed in much more than say a phone image, which might only have 3,000 horizontal by 2,000 vertical pixels.

Flickr is going to restrict new accounts to only 1,000 photos beginning in January. Existing users that are over the limit will have their old photos deleted beginning in February.

Time to start looking for a new service.

Why not just pay $50 for a Flickr Pro account?  If you have enough photos, I'd believe it to be worth it.

The only reason I have a Flickr account is to show photos (post-roadfan era) on here...when necessary.
Otherwise I'm content to post new material over on FB.
I guess I'll start trimming content on the Flickr account.

For 53,000 photos I have backed up on there it was, the promotion price was $34.99.

Well, shit. I have over 2500 photos on there. Whatever happened to ad-driven services? But yes, the only reason I have an account is so that I can post pictures here.

I think most of them are backed up on my laptop, but if that ever dies...

Bruce

I'm probably going to switch over to Wikimedia Commons full time, since it's donation-driven and I already contribute there. Wouldn't hurt to have more road photos on there, after all.

Isn't part of the deal there that anyone can download or freely use the photos you host there?

I'm currently using my Flickr account to store exit lists for all my fictional freeways (2di's 3dis, US/state routes and such).

Yep, with attribution. It's a big turn off for a lot of people (who don't want commercial re-use), but generally it doesn't spread beyond clickbait lists and the occasional interesting website. I've had a few of my photos printed in materials that were sent to me by their publishers...which felt pretty neat.
