Indianapolis, why no routes inside 465?

the only routes that should have stayed were 31, 37, and 40.

at one time SR 37 was supposed to go down to the north split as an interstate, and leave as an interstate down harding street, making a full box around downtown.  the white river fucked that plan up though.  The new north split reconstruction will remove the ghost ramps if the NIMBYS lose, the project will be great, no more exits from the left, aux lanes, and the ramps to penn will jump back a block to hit delaware too from nb 65

Ohio should do the same, nearly all the routes in their large cities are completely useless.

Right after you get Illinois, Kentucky, and Michigan to imitate Indiana as well.  :ded:

Ohio seems to be the biggest offender though, the state routes that go through their cities are completely redundant with the US routes that go through them! getting rid of those first would be great. one small example: what is the point of US 322 west of US 20 in Cleveland?

Plus due to the re-routing of SR 67, a portion of Kentucky Avenue was abandoned.

if you're referring to the piece between Harding and Morris st, it was because of Eli Lilly. it also used to go to capitol ave, but the convention center built over it.

Yep. I think the section between Harding and Morris should’ve stayed.

Edit: KY Ave actually went further - up to Illinois and Washington Streets.

Because US 322 ends in Cleveland.

US71

FWIW,  US35 goes around Richmond, IN, but US40 and US27 go through. But there's no loop as in Indianapolis

US 27 and 40 are major truck routes in that area.  That's why they haven't been rerouted.  They are actually completely reconstructing both highways in the city limits.

I noticed. A major clusterfluck through town.

It seems that INDOT will still leave a couple of state-maintained highways that travel through a city. US 27 and 40 through Richmond, US 41 through Terre Haute, US 27 and SR 930 in Fort Wayne, US 41 and SR 62 & 66 in Evansville, SR 933 and 23 in South Bend, SR 45 & 46 in Bloomington (sort of,) and US 52 and 231 around Lafayette (big stretch, but US 52 certainly isn't bypassing anything going down Teal Road.)

I-65 and I-70 serve this function for Indianapolis.

Just drove the new 465 E that was closed for repairs. INDOT didn't do a bad job at all. They changed the signs for the exits from 37 to 65. The spacing on them is extremely weird.

US-322 starts in Cleveland but it actually could start a little east of it's western terminus. I would say cut it back to where it runs into US-20 on the east side of Cleveland instead of using Chester Avenue when US-20 already uses Euclid Avenue a block south. No idea why both are US highways. It really doesn't make much since to have all the routes going into Public Square.

This thread applies to the topic of Indianapolis highways how??

Bonus, SR 135 used to go all the way downtown, not sure where it ended, but it did use capitol ave
Also, Mass ave was SR 367 for a time.

-----------------------

SR 135 did route for many years on Troy Street between Meridian and US 31 where it ended.  It nows goes via Thomson road between Meridian and US 31, where it ended.
