What's the deal with putting stickers on signs in Nevada and California? Why is it that people insist on doing that?

Couldn't tell you. Although I don't think it's a particularly widespread phenomenon, but it does seem to be slightly prevalent in some areas.

Better stickers than spray paint if you ask me. The spray paint abatement seems to greatly diminish sign reflectivity at night.

Happens a lot in Colorado as well, usually on significant signs (Welcome to Colorado signs, city/town limit signs, elevation markers, etc...)

Makes sense. I can't think of any place in Louisiana where a sign is that accessible to get stickered. (I will be happy to be proven wrong, though.)

I've always wanted to take a "PASS WITH CARE" sign, blot out the P and the E, and place an arrow pointing towards the road.

Recently on my street, someone spray-painted the word "VANDALISM" on the stop sign so it looked like it said "STOP VANDALISM". Talk about irony!

Not vandalized, but earlier this year, I woke up to find this outside my window:

I do live on the corner where the sign was, but it was just picked straight up out of the ground and carried to the other side of the street and laid there. Amazingly, there wasn't a single dent or bend on the entire thing. Also, kudos to my town for getting the sign back up before the end of the day.

The Colorado and Wyoming welcome signs on I-25 are heavily stickered where people can reach them--you may not expect signs on an Interstate to be so accessible, but Wyoming built pull-offs for both signs (the pull-off for the Colorado sign is all in Wyoming, without even a merge striped by Colorado).  I need to pull out a few pics from a month ago.

You can add I-70 at the CO/UT line as well.  Both the Utah and Colorado signs have multiple stickers as well (usually ski-related)

I love this one that I pass freqently - Vandalia Ave has been changed to Vandal Ave by........Vandals!!  It's been this way for a while; I first noticed it in the summer of 2015.

And BTW, those particular parts of this sign were not added along with the excrement.  The horns and udder can be found in the MUTCD, on standard sign "Cattle Traffic" (W11-4).

I just took another look at this picture - I think that's my car in the picture.   Unfortunately, you can't see much in the way of identifying marks (i.e., driver, license plate), but it does look like there is a purple sticker on the lower left corner of the windshield, which my car had at the time, though many people in the area have the same sticker (county park pass).  The color, make, model, and wheels are all identical to mine, and I drive through there frequently.

Any CT people here.. i don't know but around here from Greenwich all the way to Norwalk someone has been sticking "rumble" stickers on everything from stop signs to city signs to state signs.. it's crazy..

No photo, but about a month ago, one "BUMP" sign in a construction zone had "& GRIND" appended to it in spray paint.
