It is my esteemed privilege to announce the forthcoming April 2 Tuxedo Road Meet, in honor of the perennial April Fools Day commemoration. This is no joke - there will, in fact, be a road meet in Tuxedo, NY, and it will, in fact, feature attendees wearing tuxedos.
Yes, tuxedos are required. If you don't have one, do your best impression (black suit and bowtie, suit and tie, worst case and you're female and lack a suitable suit (see what I did there?), some other sort of formalwear).

For the part in Suffern, it sounds like you're telling people to follow US 202 when the two split, but from looking at a map I'm assuming you want people to follow NY 59. Also, when you say to get back on NJ 17 and take it to the US 202 exit, you say to go north but I think you probably meant to say south.
Please be kind when poking around up Stag Hill Rd. These people endure no end of curiosity seekers who want to know if whatever absurd rumors they've heard are true, and therefore you may get the stink-eye for "sightseeing" up there. They've been pretty well shit on for years.
I don't see a reason why I wouldn't be there at this point. Looks like it's time to go shopping for a fancy dress.

Just kidding, as for those of you who do not know about the K of C, their Senior Club known as the Fourth Degree has tuxedo meets as the tux is their official wardrobe.

Oh yes, the way the Knights of Columbus are with alternative lifestyles. Yes they would love that a lot as not only is the nude/ clothing optional thing considered an alternate lifestyle as far as conservative christian organizations are concerned, but the fact that most people at Gunnison now are either swingers couples or of same sex relationships on the male side. True they are well behaved and all, but you know how some homophobic people are in which some think nudity and sex are the same.
I can see some of the older Fourth Degree clutching their hearts if they went to that beach.

Actually, it puts them on a NY 59/US 202 multiplex that ends after one block. You might want to tell them to bear left at the traffic light to stay on NY 59 rather than US 202.

Not heading east, so Taconic is out. Tripoint has been on at least two past meets, so I don't see a need - people can visit on their own if desired. Old 9W would be a good add-on in warmer weather, but I have limited daylight as well.

It's in and around State Line Lookout in Alpine, New Jersey.
If we're on the topic of extra stuff to add, it looks like there's a switchback on NY 17A just west of where we'll be turning east onto it.
There is a terrific view of the whole Ramapo Pass and the 87/287/17 interchange that now sits in its midst from the mountaintop Mt. Fuji Steakhouse parking lot in Hillburn. There should be few enough leaves on April 2 to allow a decent view.

Yes there is. You climb a hill, with a switchback, then climb some more. At the top, named Mount Peter, the Appalachian Trail crosses 17A.

Been there. Not much of a switchback, just a gentle sloping curve. Nothing really of note. (NJ 5, now that's a switchback.)

They can also use the Bear Mountain Parkway, but only during nighttime hours for trucks over 5 tons. Basically, it serves as a Peekskill bypass by continuing the route of US 9. If trucks were allowed full time, you'd likely see US 6 and 202 rerouted into it, with only NY 35 serving downtown.

When does Lake Welch Parkway open? I'm thinking of clinching it on the way over, but I can't find anything more precise than "closed winters".

Why do they close it during the winter, anyway? Does it get frozen or something?
Also, I need to clinch that as well. It's one of the three parkways in the tristate area that I haven't been on yet, down from four now that I got the Sunken Meadow at the meet a week and a half ago.
So they don't have to plow it. It serves only intra-park traffic. And usually the "winter" dates are Dec. 1-Apr. 15 or something like that.

There you go, Dec. 1-Apr. 1. New York has a lot of seasonal roads that, while not officially closed, are exempt from receiving maintenance (read: plowing) during winter months. Arden Valley Road is another of the Harriman parkways, so I'm sure it's in the same category; another is Sunken Mine Road through Fahnestock State Park.
Good to know that it really does say Apr. 1. Looks like I'll be scraping through by one day. Hopefully conditions will be decent; this is a great chance to fill in some clinching holes.

The meet proper begins at 11:30, but there's a pre-meet at 10:00 in Nyack. Maybe it will cross the Tappan Zee and even pay cash one last time. Only one way to find out!

According to Google Maps, Take a Break doesn't open until noon. Yelp says it's closed weekends (the two don't agree on the weekday hours either, so it's possible they're both wrong).
Hmm, it's hard. Nyack/Tuxedo is about four hours from here, and my dad hates long drives....I'm uncertain if I can attend, but I can try.

I called them. They do in fact open at noon, but I don't mind calling the meet for 11:30. It's informal, so by the time they open we can all grab lunch and we'll be OK. Rather than call the meet for noon and end up with people showing up at 12:45. TBH half the time we stand outside for a half hour beyond the meet time anyway.
Just drove through Tuxedo on old NY-17 today on the way to Middletown. I wouldn't expect any of the parkways to be closed, no snow to worry about.
Lazy/forgetful one-week reminder! I've already heard from a lot of people. 10:00 at Memorial Park in Nyack, likely with a trip across the Zee for views from the Tarrytown side, then back to Tuxedo in the 11:30ish range for a 12:00 formal luncheon. No need to RSVP, but hope to see y'all there!

Might not be a coincidence, with something happening with the weather during the work week that sets up rain on weekends. I remember one summer many years ago where the sunny days were only during the work week, and
every weekend was a rainout.

Weather Underground has it as a small chance. At least the temperatures are now 10 degrees warmer than the earlier forecasts were calling for.

Well, it was a bit rainy for the pre-meet, and we never did leave the western shore (too busy conversing), but the rain definitely let up over lunch and we were greeted with warm sunshine (or mixed clouds) for the rest of the meet. We actually started in the middle of Leg 2 due to the Park & Ride location and headed right over to do the first bridge, which worked out perfectly for the meet photo. Details are popping up on Facebook, not sure if anything has made it to a linkable place like Flickr. Out of 13 attendees we had 1 tux, 8 suits, 2 fancy dresses, a tuxedo t-shirt, and a road sign tie, so I think this far and away is settled as the classiest, most luxurious viatological convention ever assembled. It was huge. Your move, everyone else.
Only one tux? I guess being a musician, I forget that not everyone just happens to own one!
