Looks like this one on Massachusetts 8A in Heath has a patch to show the left turn junction at the upcoming corner.

Wonder if that patch is retroreflective?

btw I've see this with some regularity around Mass for some reason. Mostly municipalities.

Ekhart, December 2002 or January 2003.

When the US route has been replaced by a state route, don't spend time taking the old signs down.  Just block out the shield with the new one.

What did IN 933 replace? Let me guess, US 33?

^^ Right, US 33 became SR 933 in St. Joseph County only. The portion of US 33 in Elkhart County, from the county line to the US 20 bypass was turned over to the localities.

This information tells you that the picture wasn't taken in Elkhart. It was taken in South Bend, on Michigan Street (BR 31), looking north toward Sample Street.

Lazy work on the signs when the change was made years ago, and it's never been fixed. Lots of the SR 933 signs are the wrong size, like this one: https://www.google.com/maps/@41.6675485,-86.2391561,3a,66.8y,90t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sq1OHsO8CUydC9y11AKyN2g!2e0

Yes, it was South Bend, not Elkhart.

It's black, so it shouldn't be.
Wait, it's all Ohio? Always has been.

Questionable modification...binder clips on a revised speed limit sign? US 190 west of Baton Rouge, from October 2014.

Later on, I'll upload a larger photo.

You've got to be kidding me.

Also, that 40 looks like it was ripped from Google Images.

Do gantries count? A couple of old gantries along Maryland Route 100 that used to hold large signs stretching across the expressway have been converted into pairs of much smaller and disonnected signs on either side of the roadway.

From the land of red, white, yellow and black.

There's a gantry on I-10 eastbound at US 165 that apparently had the same problem.

Not quite sure how gantries collide with a truck...  :pan:

Drove that stretch of MD-100 on the way to the beach.
In addition to the ones on that highway, the final overhead assembly for the US-50/301 split has gotten this treatment as well.  I think I recall it being that way last summer too.
I kind of wondered how preemptive the move might have been, or if these actually collapsed on their own first.

Say that out loud to someone and they'll be using their face to obstruct the flow of your saliva.  :-D

Wonder if that patch is retroreflective?

Unlikely.  After all, the color is black.

This one looks like a rotated T-intersection sign. This is Liberty Road in between Randallstown and Eldersburg, Maryland, west of Baltimore.

Current signage at the former north junction of old MN-5 westbound and MN-120:

Prior to the turnback:

It's obvious they plastered an "OLD" banner over the original "WEST" one.
