E-ZPass on the Mackinac Bridge?

Per MightyMac.org on Facebook, the credit card fees have not yet started. There's apparently a software update needed that will take a couple of months to implement.

I was crossing the bridge last night, and I stopped at the bridge authority building first and set up a MacPass for myself. It looks like everything else from the announcement has been put into place. There are signs posted that they no longer accept American Express, and the minimum account deposit for MacPass has been lowered.

As a side note, they recommend using a staffed lane with the pass the first crossing or two to make sure that it works properly. (If the pass is installed incorrectly or otherwise doesn't read, a car could be trapped between a crossing gate that doesn't raise and traffic queuing behind it.) They accept the pass in all lanes, and they don't guarantee that there will be a MacPass-only lane open at any given time. I don't think I've ever not seen a MacPass lane open though. I used a staffed lane last night after installing the pass on my windshield, and it read quickly and showed my new balance on the first try.

Visa needs to revamp the old commercial campaign where they highlight businesses/places that will take Visa..."But they DON'T take American Express".  Using the Mackinac Bridge in a commercial would be pretty funny.

When I do head that way, I will keep forking over couple $2s

It is completely worth it.
Plus the toll takers always love getting them, Had several tell me, they love it when people bring them.

Yeah, I'll never go through that trouble, but it is novel.

When I worked the toll booths on the NJ Turnpike I got about a half-dozen $2 bills.  I kept them and exchanged them for money I had.

To be honest... I don't know why.  I still have them, so it's not like they're doing anything for me.

Its not that bad, It probably takes as long to go into the bank and get the twos as it does to get the MacPass. Plus instead of the bridge authority keeping your money, you just keep the stack of two on you. Can spend them on something else if you want.

I think I go into a bank maybe...once a year, if that.  Usually only if I need a notary.

I like using them for tips at bars and restaurants.  Several decades ago while working a register, if I got one I'd set it aside and use it for making change to kids.
