Some gnarlier weather is headed your way. Earlier this evening, temps dropped by about 25 degrees in the span of a few hours, and heavy winds ushered in a brief burst of snowfall.

We haven't seen too many sunny days at South Lake Tahoe since the middle of February, but today was very nice with a high temperature of about 39°F.  With one more day to go, the highest official high temperature in March has been 46°F.

Many years by the end of March or the beginning of April there's a day or two that's warm enough to go sit on the beach.  Even if one of those days happens soon there's just not a heck of a lot of sand to sit on out there.



In the adjacent neighborhood, the good news is that many people won't have to call their yard landscapers for quite some time.

Currently 0C/32F, overcast with heavy freezing rain, ugh! At some point this afternoon it's supposed to switch to regular rain, reaching a high of 10C/50F overnight. Then tomorrow, the temperature is supposed to drop from 11C/52F in the morning to -9C/16F at night.

I just went for my midday walk.  Wind speeds are in the 30s, gusting over 50 mph.  On my way out, it was occasionally difficult to even make forward progress.  But on the way back I just jumped up as high as I could, spread my sweatshirt out with my arms, and the wind carried me all the way and then Splat! on the brick wall.

Oh yeah, and it's about 71°F with a mix of sun and clouds.

It rained on and off until just after noon, made it into the 70s, got a few hours of sunlight, and then the real storms came through, with a couple of tornado warnings just to the east. Two cold fronts are now approaching, with the wind picking up, and it will be in the 30s by dawn tomorrow.

NWS Chicago confirmed 16 tornadoes from the March 31 outbreak. The ones at Amboy in Illinois and Fowler and Oxford in Indiana were rated F-2. The rest were either F-0 or F-1. Closest to me was one that hit Merrillville about 12 mil SE of me.
