Title: What Is That Thing? Is It A Road?
Post by: In_Correct on July 23, 2018, 10:49:29 AM
F.M. 1125 in Montague County has two railroad crossings. The one inside Bowie has a tunnel under it.

But the other one: There is no bridge. There is no tunnel. There is a very long way around it by going the other way until you run into S.H. 59. S.H. 59 does not encounter the railroad until it is inside Bowie. There, S.H. 59 has two railroads. The first one has a bridge over the rail road. The second one is a crossing but an easy way around it by taking F.M. 1125 a few blocks south, as mentioned earlier ... or get on U.S. 287 and take the exit for U.S. 81, which has a tunnel under it.

The railroad that has an at grade crossing with F.M. 1125 curves toward Bowie where it goes under U.S. 287 and as already mentioned, under S.H. 59. Because of this curve, it is possible to make a detour in a straight line to connect F.M. 1125 with S.H. 59.

Is that what this straight line of dirt is supposed to be?

The poll is for the at grade rail road crossing on F.M. 1125.

S.H. 59 has an at grade rail road crossing, but this tunnel on F.M. 1125 is not far from it. Notice dual track nearby, but the tunnel is only for one rail track. If they double track it, they will have to build a second tunnel.

A second grade separation, U.S. 81 goes under the rail road. If the F.M. 1125 tunnel is too narrow, they can use U.S. 81.

What a bloody confusing post. Are you talking about one of the pipeline ROWs? http://mapper.acme.com/?ll=33.53581,-97.88469&z=14&t=T (switch to topo)

Yes. Why are there tire marks on it?

Why not? Pipeline maintenance vehicles have tires.

Bury the pipeline further down so that it's not affected?

Pipelines are buried far enough down that you can build a road over it with no adverse effect. Driving on the pipeline path is not uncommon.

It looks like I mistook a private dirt road for an unfinished county road project to connect F.M. 1125 and S.H. 59 near Bowie, which would be an alternative route to go around a railroad. That entire area west of Bowie between S.H. 59 and F.M. 1125 is owned by Osage Oil Field. Perhaps simply building a bridge over or a tunnel under (prefer a bridge over) the rail road would cost much less instead of building an alternate road.
