Shapefile of all current and former U.S. routes?

Has anyone tried to put together a shapefile consisting of all current and former U.S. routes that have ever existed in the good ol' U.S. and A. nation?

I'm sure we can't find every routing, but some routings are pretty well-known.
Might as well face it, pooing is cool

I have a fictional thread about re-numbering US highways, something like that would be extremely helpful. I'm not super familiar with working with things like shape files and kml, etc. but if you can convert between them semi-easily I have a lot of manually plotted routes in Google Earth I could use.
