Newton's First Law is directly responsible for my horrid sleep schedule
Anytime I searched a "bypass" on my school computer it got blocked. "By-pass" and "By pass" were fine though. Is there something I don't know?

I'm guessing they blocked anything that contained "ass" and allowed certain common words (whole words only) that contained "ass", and "pass" was on that list but not "bypass".

But even if a driver was fake-sleeping ...

Funny story told by an inter-city bus driver.  He was on an overnight trip and a lady in the front seat next to the door was afraid of him falling asleep.  He randomly closed his right eye - freaked the lady out.

Why are Siamese cats not conjoined?

Why do flammable and inflammable have the same meaning?

- You have to fake being sleep in order to sleep

I disagree. Does that count as adding to it?  :-P

How do people fall asleep while driving then?

Probably by driving while drowsy?

But even if a driver was fake-sleeping and accidentally fell asleep, that doesn't prove that you have to fake sleep in order to fall asleep for real. The vast majority of sleeping occurs in bed or elsewhere besides behind the wheel.

Nonetheless it definitely is a circumstance where there is documentation that people weren't faking it when they fell asleep.

OK, so I don't think we're disagreeing then... we're both disagreeing with the OP.

Correct, I was trying to expound upon what you were saying.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the forum in a nutshell.

I will have to disagree. It is important to those one leaves behind, but it can't very well be important to the person that just passed away.

My contribution:

Your funeral is one of the most important days of your life, but you miss attending it by a matter of days.

I will have to disagree. It is important to those one leaves behind, but it can't very well be important to the person that just passed away.

Aren't there some faiths that put a great deal of importance on the funeral/memorial service for the deceased?

I have a bit of firsthand experience with juggling the wishes of the departed vs. the emotional needs of the survivors. My mother did not want a funeral and wanted a closed casket. My grandmother (her mother) wanted to see her one last time. We compromised by allowing her to have a private visitation with the open casket, then closed it before the public visitation. We held a graveside service for immediate family and a few close friends.

My dad did not express any sentiments about what to do after his death. I was in favor of doing nothing -- turning the body over to the funeral home and letting them bury him. I did not have an emotional need for a service. The whole thing was an ordeal I didn't want to have to endure. My brother was of the opinion that we needed to do something because of his brothers and sisters. We had no public visitation, and a private graveside service for immediate family. We didn't even announce his death publicly or allow an obituary to be placed in the newspaper until we had secured his home with an alarm system. The afternoon of his funeral, I departed for the 2010 Akron/Canton road meet held the next day. I wanted life to go on.  I actually went to work the day after his death, I just missed the day he died and the day of his burial. Everyone deals with grief differently and mourns in their own way.

I don't particularly want any kind of service when I die. Just stick me in the ground. But I will defer to what my wife wants to do, because in the end I want whatever will be easier to help her deal with the loss.

Historically speaking—at least for Christians and Jews—birthdays were considered profane, pagan celebrations.  They saw no reason to celebrate the day a sinful soul entered a sinful world.  The date of one's death was much more important.  Christian saints days, for example, tend to observe the traditional date of the person's death.

The earliest written reference to Christmas falling on December 25 is a calendar otherwise dedicated to the dates of various martyrs' deaths.  Christmas appears to have been added several years later as a matter of convenience, more or less as an afterthought.

I used to think it was a butchered "quien no sabe", which means "who doesn't know".  But apparently it derives from a much less offensive Ojibwe word.
