Title: Introduction to tolbs17
Post by: tolbs17 on July 25, 2019, 01:23:04 AM
Hello, I'm MrHappy1261. (call me Mrhappy or deathnote or slay the great or whatever haha) I'm a 17 year old autistic person from Maplewood, New Jersey that lives in Greenville, North Carolina. I'm just here making highway proposals and I like hanging around places. If you think i'm too autistic, I will leave. I hope i'm good for this forum... don't judge me  :-/

I'm just here to see the highway proposals!

Eh...That isn't a reason anyone's been exiled or shunned or whatever the case may be from this forum, AFAIK. You ought to be fine on that. There's a handful of other people on the spectrum here, I don't think you'll be judged, you seem to be fine.

Being autistic will not be a reason for anyone on here to dislike you.  Only posting in Fictional, on the other hand...

(I'm joking, by the way.  Sort of.  Welcome to the forum.)

He already has several posts outside of Fictional. That will never happen for our other "only Fictional" resident here.

The reason why I'm saying this is because i don't feel like I get enough attention when doing highway proposals I get lots of ignores. So it's either i come back to this forum and have fun doing more highway proposals and what not or i get ignored and leave the forum completely.

I also love fictional proposals and I am excited to see your's!

Don't take it personally. Many times, people may love and be fascinated with you or someone else's ideas, but they may not post or respond about it if they have nothing else to add. It doesn't mean people are ignoring you, but they may still silently be acknowledging and appreciating your ideas. Please stick around, as you are very welcome here, but just know that people don't always respond to a post even if they really like it and have paid attention to it.

This.

People not commenting might mean they're not interested at all, or it might mean they're only slightly interested.  But it also might mean they don't have anything bad to say about your ideas.  Trust me, on this forum, if people really dislike your ideas, they let you know.  Sometimes the criticism is well formed and articulate, and other times it's just nasty and wry.  So silence is far from opposition.  Stick around, kid.

I agree. In a lot of cases, I'll only comment if I feel I have something useful to add.

Guys, call me "tolbs17" or "tolbs02". I'm tired of mrhappy1261 already. the username I picked back in June doesn't really make sense.

Should the letter T be capitalized?

Should I reedit this name of this thread or leave it the way it is?

I like being called "Tolbs". It's part of my real name and everyone calls me that.

No, I'm just saying, I didn't pick the best username for myself. I'm not always happy (and i'm sure everyone isn't) and i get a little frustrated when something bad happens.

I think there's a way you can request for an administrator or moderator to change your username. There's no way you can do it yourself though.

Or just be like Marf and create new accounts with other names.

Unless you actually want to remain a forum member, that is!

I wish you can like maybe every 6 months or a year or so, but yeah. It sucks that you can't do it yourself.

No, because i think you'll get banned for that. Just like one time I did see ParrDa and another account called "webny99" and I'm sure that person did choose webny99 because he wanted a better username.

^^^^^

Marf did get banned. That's what my second sentence meant.

I know for a fact the moderators can change someone's username. I have not had mine changed, but I know one user here who got a name change in real life asked the moderators for a username change and they granted the request. (I'm deliberately being oblique because it's not my place to say who or why.)

Was not interstateng one that was a resurrected member who created a second account?   That question is rhetorical as the owner of the site told me that he was a troublemaker on MTR who came back to do his stuff again here.   He got banned when he used choice words to the owner, and was kicked out for good until he came back a third time as FederalHighway1 whom I believe another moderator found his MO out real quickly and was given the boot again.

You should be called what you want to be called. You shouldn't put your handle or alias up to what is basically a non-binding vote.  Also...when you consider aliases, consider something that would remain permanent; not something that would be obsolete in a year.

It's going to show multiple names anyway–when someone quotes one of your posts, the software uses the current username at the time of posting and doesn't later change it to reflect your name change (this can be confirmed by looking at older quotes reflecting posts by a certain other longtime active forum member who changed usernames).

It's up to you, whatever you want people to call you.  It sounds like people call you "tolbs".  I'm not a mod (so I can't promise anything), but I would like to think there shouldn't be a problem if you wanted to change your user name from "tolbs17" to "tolbs".

He can't keep changing his name though, he's already done it once. My advice is to pick something so random (like, how will anybody ever figure out what "thspfc" means?) that there's never a reason to change it.

Don't worry about the 17; people append numbers for random reasons. Or it could be a reminder that you joined when you were 17. But it is a burden on the mods to keep changing names. It's one thing if the name is causing you emotional harm to be reminded of something, but you said Tolbs was part of your name anyway.

The first forum I ever joined when I was 13 already had a user named "Scott" so I used the first four digits of the UPC code on a box of Ziploc bags.

My username is a callback to my email address and the username I've been using since I was 12. It's my first initial and "3eb (Third Eye Blind) Rules" . It's been 20 years now and I've never been creative enough to come up with anything better.

I got the current "index" moniker back in 2015 when a username I had got reset because it was all Ws. Something like WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. Which was within the allowed character limit but so long it broke stuff on the site. So I just pulled "index" out of nowhere from the first thing I saw on my screen. These days I don't really like it but oh well. I'm more likely to use the actual name I go by these days which is my middle name, Scott.

And, see now, mine is just my first two initials followed by my last name.  Not very creative, I suppose.

On another site or two, I have a username that is based on the Mexican word for "pestle"–for no particular reason, other than that I own a Mexican mortar and pestle that I like.

El majadero? I just looked it up out of curiosity, and Google also suggests that this word can also mean "silly" or "birdbrain".

Nope, never heard that word before–although I'm far from fluent, so there are a LOT of words I've never heard before.   :spin:

I'm talking about the Mexican term for it, which derives from the Náhuatl language.

Mortar = Molcajete (derived from mollicaxtli)
Pestle = Tejolote (derived from texolotl)

Google Translate is notoriously uneven in quality, so it's entirely possible that a lot of native Spanish speakers have never heard that word before either! :-D

Heh, I used it once to translate something into Russian and the native Russian speakers who saw my comment started ridiculing it as obviously being from Google Translate because it was so bad.  :-(

I've found that it gets pretty close–at least very intelligible.  But regional lingo is just something that a computer can't really handle well.  I mean...

...how much can you really expect of Google Translate?

I've noticed something about Google Translate. Enter 5 PM in English.

These languages will say 17:
French, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Dutch, Afrikaans, Danish, Czech, Serbian, Yiddish, Slovenian, Slovak

These languages will say 5:
Spanish, German, Greek, Arabic, Hebrew, Japanese, Russian, Chinese (both), Indonesian

Why are Spanish, German, and Russian in the 5 category, while all other Romance languages, Germanic languages (except English), and Slavic languages say 17? Yiddish and Hebrew are also in different categories.

(What would be really weird is if trying a different number results in a different set of languages. I haven't tested this.)

I think it reflects usage in each language. However, in Spain hours are mostly written on a 24 hour clock, while in spoken language the 12 hour clock is used. For 5 p.m. I would write "las 17:00", but say "las cinco". A special case arises with 1 p.m., in which I write "la 13:00" to reflect spoken language ("la una"), even though it doesn't make sense at first glance.

This is the first time I see that. And I'm a native Spanish speaker.

Who thinks I should be called mrhappy1261 again? It seems like many of you like me called mrhappy1261 better than tolbs17. or maybe i should just be called MrHappy or just "tolbs" since 1261 are just random numbers. I'm not 17 years old anymore.

It's up to you, whatever you want people to call you.  It sounds like people call you "tolbs".  I'm not a mod (so I can't promise anything), but I would like to think there shouldn't be a problem if you wanted to change your user name from "tolbs17" to "tolbs".
I used to be tolbs17 on many platforms. Instagram, Battle Dawn, possibly on reddit too, but I'm fine tolbs17. People will KNOW when I first joined this forum (well I was 16 and not 17) but I was mrhappy1261 when I joined.
