DFW Connector gets $250 mil in stimulus money, construction starts now!

The freeway junctions north of D/FW airport are nasty, and were built in the early 70s - today they handle about 200,000 cars per day. The DFW Connector is a 14 mile project designed to rebuild all of it, and includes 24 lanes on SH 114 (that includes frontage roads, but still). Unfortunately, it does include tolled express lanes.

Construction was supposed to begin in 2010, but TxDot told me today (I have to talk to them a lot at work) that, because of federal stimulus funds, construction started in May on utility work. The whole thing is slated to be completed in 2013 instead of 2014 as was previously scheduled. That is, if TxDot survives the politicians and stays around.
