Quote from: edwaleni on August 24, 2024, 09:46:48 PMSeems this is the joint in question. IDOT started getting calls from drivers reporting metal sticking up in the air and drivers dodging it. Looks like its been having some issues.

Yikes ... that looks like it could do (maybe did?) some damage.  :-o

Quote from: ilpt4u on August 24, 2024, 05:28:25 PMIts the typical route for traffic from the airport to Southern IL. Single lane flyover at the closest thing IDOT has to a Full Stack in Illinois in East St Louis. This is a "straight thru" movement but is a single lane ramp to change from 70EB to 64EB. The interchange doesn't include the west-facing movements as those are handled in Missouri across the river so not a Full Stack

Well, out of the eight conceivable movements between I-64 and I-70, six can be done at this interchange:
I-64 E to I-70 E (straight through)
I-64 W to I-70 E (ramp right)
I-64 W to I-70 W (straight through)
I-70 E to I-64 E (straight through)
I-70 W to I-64 E (ramp left)
I-70 W to I-64 W (straight through)

The other two do not exist, even along I-44 across the river, because the ramps that would connect them are missing:
I-64 E to I-70 W
I-70 E to I-64 W

I-290   I-294   I-55   (I-74)   (I-72)   I-40   I-30   US-59   US-190   TX-30   TX-6

70EB to 64WB can be done with no stop lights, taking the aforementioned IL 3 Spur exit/1st IL exit on 70, then turn on the jughandle down to St Clair Ave/IL 3 and enter 64WB. Right around a mile, no lights.

64EB to 70WB, St Clair Ave RIRO 64 Exit 3, two blocks SE on St Clair to 18th St, around the round-about to 64WB and continue thru the interchange to 70WB. No stop lights but a couple stop signs

These movements can also be done fairly easily using Downtown STL surface streets

According to the Belleville News Democrat, the 70 EB/64 EB "straight thru" ramp will be closed into next year, as the replacement joint is not to ship to IDOT until early 2025
