The other day, I was just thinking about how with the grid system in Florida, the Orlando area in the middle of the state (area code 407) has many state roads beginning with either a 4 or 5 - so in other words, SR 407 could potentially be located in the area code of the same number and fall within the convention of the grid.

Is that, in fact, true?

Since nobody's answered your question yet, it doesn't seem to be true anymore. SR 407 runs near the Space Coast (In fact, you would drive on it to go from Orlando to the Kennedy Space Center), which was split off into the 321 area code from 407 in 1999.

US 301 in area code 301.

Also, area code 240 is overlaid on 301, and US 240 used to go through the area, before it was decommissioned.
301 in 301 has always been a mnemonic device for me while traveling between Bowie and the Nice Bridge.

M-231 misses area code 231 by only a few miles.

Fun fact: To clinch M-231, you have to enter area code 231 briefly as the next exit to the west along I-96 is Fruitport Rd, which is in area code 231 (by 1/2 mile)!

NJ 201 existed when AC 201 was created. NJ 201 is gone, but the area code would still match, even with an overlay.
